# I've got a day off work...
...I was going to do so much, instead I did this (click for biggitudinality):
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 13:41, archived)
# hahahahaha
fucking ace. clickity!
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 13:42, archived)
# :D
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 13:44, archived)
# hah!
brilliant
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 13:45, archived)
# Morgan Freeman is black!
Lols!
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 13:45, archived)
# Hahaha
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 13:51, archived)
# Hahahahaaaa!
Richard Dawkins is a twat.
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 13:54, archived)
# He gets on my...
...not inconsiderable tits.

Jeremy Hardy has referred to him as an evangelical atheist and once called him a Jehovah's I-Didn't-See-Nuffink.
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 14:12, archived)
# Exactly this.
He's as bad as those he would presume to damn.

"HE is wrong! Think the way I tell you to!"
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 14:16, archived)
# LOL
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 14:19, archived)
# No he's not.
He'd make an awkward dinner party guest, to be sure; but the people he's arguing against would happily see you dead AND tortured for all eternity.
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 17:14, archived)
# Not in my household..
He speaks of the future of our species..

God?.. you'd might as well believe in the tooth fairy, or Santa or the Easter bunny..

I look forward to the day that our childish species wakes up and smells the "ozone/CO2/whatever".. god, pfft!.. we are the only ones who are going to dig ourselves out of the mire.
(, Fri 6 Aug 2010, 3:08, archived)
#
HE is wrong! the way I tell you to
(, Fri 6 Aug 2010, 8:36, archived)
# Jeremy Hardy...
...is possibly even more of a twat.
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 14:17, archived)
# I've met...
...Jeremy Hardy.

I was hammered and made a complete arse of myself.

A trend I have continued whenever I've had a chance to talk to someone even remotely famous.
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 14:22, archived)
# Richard Dawkins is awesome
and you're wrong

/internet argument #412
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 14:18, archived)
# He's not he's a hypocritical, evangelical prick.
My 5yo neice could tear up his argument with a simple "How do you KNOW?" and phadumph! The claim that belief is ridiculous falls right over and lies there. I'll grant it's extremely lucrative, and taking money from idiots for preaching to the converted is obviously never a problem, but it's bollocks. Telling people to think for themselves and saying "I don't know" is hardly ground-breaking stuff.

He's a preacher, and a cockhead for being so.
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 14:27, archived)
# There's a whole bunch of arguments why belief is ridiculous that he goes into
Not least being that there are around 7000 gods currently worshipped on planet Earth and not all of them can be right - taking into account historical gods and the chances of your belief being the correct one dwindle to nothing

He may be unpopular for saying it, but I'm extemely glad that someone has the guts to put their head above the parapet and shoot down some of the "religion deserves respect" bullshit
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 14:45, archived)
# ^ this all the way
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 14:49, archived)
# I concur this
There's no "sitting one the fence" when it comes to religion.
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 14:50, archived)
# I worship the fence sitting god
you fucking bastard. Die infidel.
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 15:13, archived)
# agreed
I have no time for religion or the twats who follow it
(, Sun 8 Aug 2010, 12:28, archived)
# he's not saying that all belief is ridicuous,
only belief without evidence, which seems pretty sensible to me.
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 14:48, archived)
# Yes, but he's so annoyingly worthy and righteous that it seems only fair to point out to him that it's ALL a matter of belief
Militant/evangelical atheists piss me off even more than the religious. At least most - not all, I grant you - religionists are prepared to accept there are other belief systems, and generally just invite you to theirs, instead of slagging the others off*

*Right-wingers not included - but they're all arseholes, religious or no.
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 15:03, archived)
# But he doesn't kill people for it
so he'd a bit better than the other nutters.
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 15:15, archived)
# but...
Stalin was an atheist

Beware those with moustaches....

# Militant atheists write books questioning belief
Militant religionists fly planes into buildings

I know which side I'm on

# Daily Mail Reader alert.
*klaxons*
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 16:21, archived)
# WTF? How does that make me a Daily Mail reader?
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 16:49, archived)
# Sounds more like a YouTube atheist watcher :P
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 17:38, archived)
# Now that I will admit to
With perhaps a nod to Victor Strenger who came up with the masterful quote "Science flies you to the moon. Religion flies you into buildings."
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 17:55, archived)
# Mainstream science isnt a belief system in the religious sense.
Its 'belief' is based on observable and measurable evidence. Religious belief is generally based on superstition. The reason Dawkins appears righteous is because he's right.
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 15:43, archived)
# ^^ this

#
"that it seems only fair to point out to him that it's ALL a matter of belief"

Postmodernist bullshit

*relurks*
(, Fri 6 Aug 2010, 1:35, archived)
# You are correct. It is all a matter of belief
And this is why it is perfectly fine for me to believe that black people are the reason the weather is terrible, it is my moral obligation to burn them, and that my breakfast toast is the re-incarnation of Jesus.

Oh, wait, you mean we should have _standards_? For our beliefs? STANDARDS? But that's... exactly the flipping point, idiot.
(, Sat 7 Aug 2010, 13:32, archived)
# "he's not saying that all belief is ridicuous, only belief without evidence, which seems pretty sensible to me"
Isn't that Agnosticism rather than Atheism?

+runs away+
(, Sat 7 Aug 2010, 13:31, archived)

Actually... no, he addresses this pretty early on in most of his books, and is infact one of his points.

# Morgan Freeman's not an athiest.
He even insited on injecting the last lines of War of the Worlds with a message about God.
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 16:06, archived)
# Indeed
When he was interviewed on the Daily Show recently about his TV show about the Universe he claimed that all the scientists he spoke to researching the show said that some things were inexplicable and that God was responsible. He seemed very satisfied by this (almost certainly not true) fact.
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 16:43, archived)
# Bugger...
...some website I went on to check said he was at the very least agnostic, if not an out-and-out atheist.

Damn! Webshiter In Interwebs Not Always Reliable Shocker!
(, Thu 5 Aug 2010, 17:24, archived)
# No dude, it's even better this way
Now everyone will think he's an atheist and annoy him about it constantly, and it'll all be down to you! Cue manic laughter!

(, Fri 6 Aug 2010, 14:39, archived)
# Athiests no, just anti-christian
The thing that annoys me most about the evangelical atheists like Dawkins and all his sheep, is that they still haven't tackled Islam head on, it's only ever Christianity that gets a kicking, yes he mentions 7000 gods and "All" belief systems but he doesn't lay into it in the same way, with the same fervour. I'm agnostic but he annoys the shit out of me.
(, Fri 6 Aug 2010, 20:39, archived)
# Try reading God is not great,
Christopher Hitchens, who I assume you'd class as an evangelical atheist is pretty scathing about all of the big religions.

Regardless, most of his arguments are about religious belief and its fuckwittery in its conceptual form. When it comes down to it, all belief in God is ridiculous and the arguments for atheism can be applied to all religions, you can just use individual ones to pick examples of their shared stupidity.
(, Sun 8 Aug 2010, 20:22, archived)
