this is the internets.These things do happen sometime. A few years ago I saw a whole forum come apart at the seams over what started as a hilarious and stupid play-fight between three of the regulars when one of them suddenly decided it was a real fight and really went off on one. It didn't help that all three were the forum owners and hosted tons of stuff for the particular community it served.
It's a cliche I know but a well-worn truth too; what is said in writing can so easily be misunderstood simply doesn't have any of the nuance of speech nor the subliminal expressions we use when face-to-face. I just didn't think he was the type to flounce off completely let alone when speaking to a board regular. I think you're right about the other reasons which we will never know.
