I don't think it's any more in-jokey or cliquey than board.
It is, however, FAR less forgiving.

The thing is, whenever one board decides to "invade" another, it's only ever the people who only use the originating board who give a shit.

Whenever /talk invades other boards, only /talk cares. Whenever /QOTW or /board or /links say "HA HA HA HA HA, YOU SHOULD POST THIS ON /TALK" to a new person who doesn't know better, only /QOTW or /board or /links care. The only difference is that /talk users generally dish out their own abuse, rather than trying to manipulate other people into doing it for them.
