A friend of mine wanted it done,
but was told it would likely split open again after a few years and she'd either have to have it redone or be left with torn ears.

It does look rather cute, but yeah, a whole minefield of problems.
And plus, being a guy, I'd never suit them XD

Yeah, I can see why someone would have them.
I figure few places would employ someone with elf ears though, which is a bit of a shame.

As body modifications go, it's one of the more tame ones.

Nah, you just say it's natural. I knew a kid who had one pointy ear.

There was something I saw that I'd consider.
You can get high strength - rare earth magnets implanted near your finger tip, which is supposed to vibrate around magnetic/electrical fields basically giving you an extra, rudimentary sense.

I wouldn't want skin next to them
they find something particularly attractive it really hurts and then skin splits

an extra rudimentary sense of cancer?
or ripped up skin in the event of an actual magnetic field?

They're coated in silicone, and they don't rip your skin.
At least from what I've read in blogs by people who have them.

I have one
in my penis. I can sense clit rings from 30 paces

Hahahah
It's more electric fields, than magnetic, so you're probably detecting vibrators.

That makes more sense
I just had two magnets, uncoated and had a 42N strength rating. I bled quite a lot.
It sounds sorta nice to have tingling fingers really,
You know, unless it's the onset of a heart attack.
I suppose whiskers are next, Jo' Lumley liked em
