My buildings are all survival buildings, so they tend to be on stilts with moats and low roofs so Endermen can't get in.

They're great until you've run out of arrows and there's a pack of mobs farting around waiting for you to exit.

I just plaster the area in torches so that nothing spawns overground. I only then have to deal with the occasional Enderman that pops up from underground. As a bonus it also tends to discourage Enderman from running off with any hubcaps blocks that aren't nailed down.
