George Harrison died of lung cancer. Steve McQueen died of cardiac arrest following surgery for removal of cancerous growths, Wayne died of stomach cancer (he'd had lung cancer a few years previously). The beagle probably got euthanised and dissected to see what effects the smoke had on its organs.
