It's a piece of piss! Try www.gimptalk.com for various tutorials - it's how I got started. Plus I also have the latest version, very user friendly.

and it is meant to be like photoshop but isn't. So I did a bit of "parent directory" photoshop7.zip hunting on Google and have managed to get Wine to comply with Linux.

Just run the Win32 version (you'll need to install the WinGTK libraries first). One sec and I'll find the packages ...

Works just fine. Plus: www.gimp.org/tutorials/ is good.

*doh* You're on Linux aren't you ... just run the standard Gimp release then
