you could try the scanlines trick
where you put one layer over the top of the whole animation, containing a row of black/white pixels, then a row of transparent

easiest way to do it is to create a 1px wide x 2px tall image with one pixel filled and the other transparent, turn this into a pattern, and then fill the top layer using the pattern

reduces the file size considerably
