I think it's safe to say the picture wasn't CGI given the era
so I'm not sure how the shadow could be anything other than correct

Could be any number of things.
Artificial lighting
Camber of the road
Curvature of the lens
etc.
(Though it looks
mostly right to me, probably just a lens thing... medunno?)
