I had doubts from the outset of its ability to stay interesting for a whole week.

# the weekly challenge
can only ever be as good as the suggestions put to it.

# how are the challenges decided?
suggestions on the board or emails?
(, Mon 13 Jan 2003, 13:26, archived)
# emails are better I think.
Suggestions on the board are canvassed for on Friday mornings, and a combination of things on email and things on the board get organised for a vote on Friday lunchtime-ish.

# This
comment is also very valid.
Nice thought Dr.P-K

If you think the challenge is not going in the right direction then create something that takes it that way possibly?
(, Mon 13 Jan 2003, 13:26, archived)
# sometimes
the best suggestions get overlooked...
edit: but what the hell, it's what you do with the challenge that counts - doesn't matter how clever the original idea is...

# Ah, but it gives the feeble minded
and weak of hummus (me) a chance.

# oooooooooooh yesh
that's what i've been thinking.
Though, admittedly, there are have been a few absolutely classy ones. The AOL uses string paintmash is a good example.

PUT IN A BIT OF EFFORT YOU SLAGS

# the things is its worth getting a ton of lukewarm entries
if it means you get a few hot ones.
(, Mon 13 Jan 2003, 13:27, archived)
# i agree
but a lot of the entries now have already been done, i know it's cause there's some people who don't bother with b3ta over the weekend, but still it's a lot of repeatition, th eonly way it's gonna stop getting annoying now, is if people try a bit of effort, rahter than just adding a bit of bitchy text to a picture.
(, Mon 13 Jan 2003, 13:29, archived)
# My fiance and I lit up a fat one
and laughed like drains on Friday night to some of the entries.

Lots of repetition, but the good stuff is very funny indeed.

# smoking fat people is cruel.
You should have had a spliff.
(, Mon 13 Jan 2003, 13:35, archived)
# Oh
I see. So a challenge has to be something that is funny, weird, and only won by people who are highly talented in photoshop?

This has been a challenge that has grossed some of the widest responses from the most users.

So a success would be more accurate.

Though of course you are entitled to your opinion.

# No I see
What you are saying.
It is WAY too easy to fall into the trap of slagging companies off.
What I am saying is that this is one of the more accessible challenges- especially for those with no PS or GIMP knowledge/access.

# very true
I should have left the bottom text off really.

# Personally
My fav. challenge was the 'straight to video' and the 'overlooked moments in history'.

They were great. Fab and huge content.

# Yes its easy this week :)
But it depends how you view it. Do you want more of us newbies and lurkers joining in, or do you just want the best of the best competing?
btw, what do the reg's recomend.... Im using PSP7, it seems ok, but is photoshop better ?
(, Mon 13 Jan 2003, 13:57, archived)
# Yes..
This challenge prompted me to paypal some dosh and become a member. (is that the right word?)

However, I forgot to take into account the fact that my creative juices weep rather than flow.
