become a bad thing?
I think the first thing you bunch need to figure out is whether the FAQ is worth following or not.

But this is a slow saturday, so 30kb doesn't matter too much, although in all fairness MarkyH is in the right.

"For file size, a still image will rarely need to be over 50KB and an animation should preferably be under 200KB, but anything up to 250 KB is acceptable. Please do your best to keep filesizes as small as you can, because not everybody has access to broadband. A good joke won't be spoiled by a slightly lower quality image."
(, Sat 13 Jan 2007, 18:24, archived)
that this particular picture is so quality intensive it couldn't be jpegged a little more, or scaled down?
(, Sat 13 Jan 2007, 18:26, archived)

and yes, I know I just added 25kb to the thread.
(, Sat 13 Jan 2007, 18:28, archived)
Just saying that it's not a rule, it's a guideline.
(, Sat 13 Jan 2007, 18:29, archived)
complaining about the filesize of the original post has added over 400k to the board in HTML source and images.
(, Sat 13 Jan 2007, 18:44, archived)
My take on this is, why have silly exceptions to the rules based on time/status/image type/etc. etc. when it's pretty obvious a lot of people are struggling to get to grips with the basic ruleset without them having to learn a timetable of exemptions too. Either the rules are worth following or not. All I did was post a reminder about the FAQ, and I did it with a little hummus for good measure. It's pretty sad that some saw that as an opportunity to jump on the childish "moan at teh nazi LOL!" bandwagon.
(, Sat 13 Jan 2007, 18:50, archived)
people are just tired of you being a cunt
(, Sat 13 Jan 2007, 18:53, archived)
Cunt.
;)
(, Sat 13 Jan 2007, 18:58, archived)
but i pale in comparison to someone who moans about images being 10k over the limit
and moans about people not following the faqs then posts an animation of a girl stabbing herself in the cunt with a crucifix
shurly NSFW?
(, Sat 13 Jan 2007, 19:01, archived)
Just a reminder that it's nice to be concious of optimisation. Your image might've only been 10k over, but it could've easily been 20k under. If you're really that upset about it, there's a little link captioned "Ignore" right by my name. Go ahead and click that, it'll probably make the board much more pleasurable for the both of us.
(, Sat 13 Jan 2007, 19:06, archived)
youre the one who has an obsession with being a board nazi
you got flamed for it on my thread and you youre getting flamed for it now.
(, Sat 13 Jan 2007, 19:21, archived)
a bunch of cunts flame me...
and I'm a Nazi cunt?
(, Sat 13 Jan 2007, 19:23, archived)
and constantly telling people to read the faqs even if theyre only a bit over the "recommended guidelines" does sadly make you a nazi cunt
(, Sat 13 Jan 2007, 19:26, archived)
But if that really is the case, I'll happily remove those few offending frames. If that was really your problem, could you not have just politely pointed that small fact out rather dragging me into this debacle?
(, Sat 13 Jan 2007, 19:33, archived)
I don't mind expression of opinions or even complaints when they have accompanying hummus. :D
(, Sat 13 Jan 2007, 19:02, archived)
posting a reminder for a guideline designed to reduce a problem, which actually increases the problem, makes a mockery of the guideline you're so vehemently trying to encourage people to adhere to, doesn't it? Hardly the best way to promote the guideline, I feel. I mean, if people cared so much about their precious bytes, a simple "Hey, that image is a little large. Could you reduce it to under 50k?" would suffice. To save even more precious bytes, they could also decide to delete their comment if they notice that someone has already pointed it out to the original poster.
The outrage that usually ensues after someone posts an over-the-limit picture suggests that most people care more about the principal of someone breaking the rules, than the rules themselves.
(, Sat 13 Jan 2007, 19:12, archived)
It's not about keeping the overall board bytes to a minimum. That's just retarded. It's about setting some kind of limit so B3ta isn't a crazy free for all.
I know exactly what this is. Seems B3tans love to have a common enemy to bitch at, no matter who it is. I've seen this same kind of thread grow out of control when it's in favour of my kind of behaviour. Basically, there's a bunch of cunts on this board who just love an excuse to jump on a bitching bandwagon. They don't seem to care if they're talking smack or not.

Therefore I win the internets.
You all owe me £5.

B3ta wouldn't be such a great place to be
(, Sat 13 Jan 2007, 18:22, archived)
its not there to be followed zealously.
The FAQ (all hail the mighty FAQ) are merely guidelines and the 50kb limit is a random number picked by the magic donkey

and flavoured bottled water
(, Sat 13 Jan 2007, 18:36, archived)
for all those who need to see why it was 50k in the first place
(, Sat 13 Jan 2007, 18:49, archived)
All I did was post a gentle reminder that there are some posting guidelines that the person in question might do well to familiarise his or herself with, with accompanying hummus.
Seems to me like the nazi subculture waiting to pounce is comprised of the pricks who leapt upon me pissing, moaning and complaining like a bunch of pussies while adding no hummus to the board at all. It even managed to spill into other threads.
I find that really sad.
(, Sat 13 Jan 2007, 19:01, archived)
you post your reminders, and thats because youre the guy at the party asking them to turn the noise down when its not even that loud
if a pics way over then furry muff but posting "read the faqs" everytime someone posts a little over 50k just put everyones back up and does your "cause" more harm than good
(, Sat 13 Jan 2007, 19:25, archived)
that they should be more concious of the guidelines using a small, simple, funny animation?
'cause I fail to see how one funny picture has caused such a catastrophe.
The cunts who thought it was a fantastic opportunity to flame me are the problem. If you were prepared to check, I think you'll find that it's actually very rare I'm flamed for reminding about the FAQ. Most of the time it's SOP for someone to let someone know when they step outside the lines. There's nothing mean intended by it, or at least there shouldn't be. And if it's done with a funny picture/animation, then they're also enriching the creativity and humour of the website. That's what B3ta is about, right?
(, Sat 13 Jan 2007, 19:31, archived)
I'm a bit of a size nazi myself, simply because from my perspective the majority of people who most frequently badly abuse the size limits often post stuff that I think is shit, which in turn may put off some of the people on dialup whose contribution I do like from using the board.
Giggedy has a point though. I think jumping on every minor oversize post has a negative effect. It makes it seem like a petty request, which of course dilutes its effectiveness when it's actually warranted. Choose your battles, that's what I'm suggesting.
