my photshop has now developed an occasional issue with 'save for web'
and will crash
it's not random, it will dislike certain source pics unless i save them as something else in a different app

one suggestion, take a look at Image --> Mode, I guess it's possible there's a problem there.

make it indexed with as little colours as possible first
then save as gif?
