50kb = quick loading and nicer for people with monthly limits.

A larger image is usually linked too, so it's not like anyone's missing out.

Did I miss something?

I know it's been a few years since I really had a good wank to the FAQ but,thanks to the joy of Hyperlinks, I plainly see "For file size, a still image will rarely need to be over 50KB and an animation should preferably be under 200KB, but anything up to 250 KB is acceptable."

Did the bastards at OED redefine "anything" again?
