Reminds me of when I was first getting facial hair as a teen and whenever I didn't shave for a few days, someone somewhere (usually an older male) would always say in derisive tones, 'Oh, are you trying to grow a beard/moustache son?', and I got so sick of folk saying it I would say 'Yeh, look!' and gurn like I was trying really really hard.
