I don't think mine needs renewing for another 6 years, and to be honest I was planning to emmigrate at some point (although it will clearly never happen)and then I might be able to get free renewals on a British passport as an expat, I honestly don't know.
Plus to prove my existence to the Italian government I need to send them a birth certificate, an actual one not a photocopy, which cost about 70 quid or something.
