i know, huge.

my problem was being unable to find the clickable thumbnail code on photobucket.
it's so easy to find on imageshack.
anyway if you click on it you will be taken to an image that can be printed out on regular 8.5x11 paper and folded in two for a card.
/edit: Not true, you have to photoshop the two halves apart, make one with an empty bottom and one with an empty top, and turn the page over once it prints the first image with the blank part at the bottom just right so that it prints the image you want on the inside on the inside. I've done this too many times.
The effect of opening this card wouldn't nearly be the same as looking at it on the internet because there would be 2/4 of the page it's printed on that are completely blank, leaving the overall impression one of confusion juxtaposed with emptiness. C'est la vie.

It's how we spell schooling around here.
It's not the size, it's the format. Save it as a JPG. Quality 5 or 6 of 12.
Edit: Good lad!

Edit: Good lad!
i saved it as 2, i might actually still reduce the dimensions and increase the quality.

as far as i can remember bmp gets flamed on b3ta.
at least if it does satanic upwards loading due to filesize.

There's some bizarre movement on the internet at the moment suggesting that .png is the best format for everything.
If you find any of these people, call them retards.

have you heard the argument against .gif?
some company apparently owns the rights to it, so .png is the public domain alternative. not like anybody i know has ever gotten sued for using .gif

I've heard the argument
but as you say, I've never heard of anyone having any trouble using .gif. Nobody has ever asked me for royalties, that's for sure.

I don't give a fuck if your link proves that they don't give a fuck if you use it.
I'll take your word for it.

The first time I made a .gif file
I was playing with Animator Pro, for MSDOS, because there was no (or I didn't know any) animation software for Windows 3.1 available at the time. And I barely had any pubes.

Compuserve who own the code for the GIF format
openly allow the use of GIF wherever you need to, what they often object to is software developers using the source code within their products without seeking their permission. I don't know the legal ramification of why Compuserve do that but I know you can use GIF for animations and pictures without worry of breaking some laws.

Note: all their patents on the GIF format have expired now.
writing your own codec for GIF based on the specification is feasible, I had a go once.

If it's not animated and it has photo-like qualities then .jpg is the best way to go.
If you want solid blocks of colour, like in a cartoon or a block of text, .gif or .png is the way to go.
.gif tends to have lower filesizes than .png but it's much of a muchness.

i knew most of this, i kind of like the low res dither effect of gif on photo like images.
obviously not for a final product (only sometimes) but it was somewhat intentional.
well i made it a jpg and got it under 100k.
thanks for the link to the optimisation site, i was looking for that.
