There's a mathematical formula for it - I can't remember it, but basically you can't get anywhere, because you go half the distance
Then half the remaining distance, then half that remaining distance, and so on, and never actually reach anywhere.

ah, the usual cited example or hypothetical situation (well, the one I've heard many times before), is an archer firing an arrow at a target
the arrow is slowing in flight, so after every second, it covers 50% of the distance remaining to the target... Or something like that...
