But that is what makes this so pathetic in my opinion.
(, Tue 7 Jul 2009, 13:10, archived)
# Meh, I see what you mean.
But what I like about it is that it is open to everybody, making it a lot more accessible and less pretentious, in that people who would normally not be interested in art or feel 'excluded' from it can be involved. It is an interesting thing to see to any bystander, not just some poncy small section of society. I think anything that gets people talking about art can only be positive.
*gets off of plinth*
(, Tue 7 Jul 2009, 13:18, archived)
# I concur to an extent.
However, how is it getting people talking about art? I just don't see it being art. If the Arts council had done it and got artists to go up there for a few hours each and do a painting then yes, but someone getting up there and holding up an NSPCC sign for an hour? Sorry, just don't get it.
(, Tue 7 Jul 2009, 13:20, archived)
# I'm back!
This is exactly my point. That you (and the great majority of people) don't see it as art is what makes it so good, that itself is making people explore their own perceptions of art, which is what has been happening for decades - look at Duchamps Urinal, Tracey Emin's bed. etc.
That isn't to say that I think it is the most magnificent thing in the world, but I think it is an interesting experiment if nothing else.

Interestingly (sic) Roger McGough, in his tv advert, defines a poem as "anything that the poet decides is a poem". So I suppose artists use a similar definition. However if it's shite then we don't have to read it or look at it, unless we count ourselves as connoiseurs in which case our expertise is likely to cost us serious amounts of dosh. Poetic justice?
PS the above is a poem.

In the year of our lord, Wednesday, The Dutch Inventor Mediocre travelled all the way to Pakistan just for shits and giggles.

"I was bored during my lunch hour, so I hijacked an Eskimo Inuit who was visiting Amsterdam and drove him all the way to Islamabad," said the batty snooker ball enthusiast.

"When I got there, I shouted at some of the locals for a couple of minutes and walked back. I made it back to work in time to start my afternoon celery fondling, but I forgot to get any lunch so I was proper hungry until I got home and my manservant had made me some cockaleekie soup. I spilt some though and it burnt my balls. It kind of turned me on if I am honest" said the vegetable violating Dutchy.

I had bread last week, I never lose anything when I have bread. I wasn't fussed though, it has got the bread craving out of my system for another couple of months :P
My trousers are now too loose though so I think it may have been water weight, I need to buy a couple of sizes smaller AGAIN but I'm not going to. I can't afford to be buying new trousers every few weeks :P

I bet you'll do well again this week :)
