Yup.
My mate got to about 40 before he started puking his guts up and had to bail out altogether by 60.
The whole 100 is only five cans if you do it with single pub measure shot glasses like we did, but the drinking every minute thing doesn't give you a chance to piss any of it away.

where you drink the volume of beer equal to the amount of blood in you. (8 pints for 80kg ) without going to the toilet
when you've finished you are half man half beer.

I've done it myself, and it's HARD. Especially when you need to dash out to piss/smoke. It is fun though, and really gets you slaughtered if you've got the best part of two hours.
A slightly different version takes only ten minutes, but I can't remember the name...
First minute, one shot of beer. Second minute, two shots of beer, third minute, three shots of beer all the way up to ten minutes. I've got to seven before throwing up. I was pissed when I started though.

That's with standard measures though
and is hard enough if you do it with that.
But did you see the size of some of those shots?! I'd say that was closer to 7 pints or so rather than 4 or 5.

Real shots were 1/6th of a Gill
Back before spirits were metricised, a shot was 1/6th of a gill, 4 gills to a pint, so 24 shots to a pint - just over 4 pints in old money.

I did this with five mates, all of us wearing silly fake Scottish hats.
Not one of us made it to the end without chundering. In mitigation there was no-one not taking part and we had no real shot glasses, so we ended up guessing how much a shot was when poured into a hiball glass. I think we got through seven or eight cans each.

Century
In the former "best party school on the East Coast" UVA, this was called a century and it wasn't shots; it was 12 ounce standard cans or regular mixed drinks, but you had 24 hours to do it. Not as easy as it sounds.
Puking was a disqualification that kept you out of the Century Club.
Our man here gets kudos for remaining amiable and funny instead of maudlin, mean or just gross. Well done!

App to make this game easier
I've written a very simple VB6 app to remind you to drink every minute and count your alcoholic consumption. No install, portable, works on 95 thru to Vista. Source code included too. Consider it GPL'd.

I may be getting old, but in the halcyon days of summers gone by, we'd do 50 shots in under 3 minutes, without having to chuck. (And the record was under a minute.) Thus I feel you need to up your game a bit...
