smashing blog, when i see old wizzer and chips stuff like harry's haunted house it makes me realize how much of an influence those old comics had on my drawing style.
not a lot of books and art in my house when i was growing up , but always loads of comics.

Just picked up a Whizzer & Chips 1984 album
recently for 75p in a charity shop. Couldn't believe my luck!

i used to read and re-read those comics
looking at how they drew everything and it totally influenced my style.
anything from BIG comic, monthly and fortnightly, buster, even beano and dandy really, I loved seeing how they were printed and stuff. I then moved on to old copies of oink! and now read Viz, it's funny how similar the drawing styles are in all of them. I'm sure if i did the research, there would be people who drew for most of them.

Oink was short-lived, wasn;t it?
There was a record stuck to the front of the first one. Can't remember what the song was on it but I remember doing a sads when I lost it..

it was indeed short lived.
i saw a complete set for sale on ebay for about £15, put a bid in, within minutes the set was withdrawn and sold individually for a bout a fiver each...
some of the contributors to the mag make for a good read, including lard from mark & lard. it was marketed as a viz for kids.
