I have noticed this too.
Frustrating as I actually find his voice a bit smug sounding, do really like his stuff though. The Power of Nightmares was one of the best things ever put on TV.

All Watched Over By Machines Of Loving Grace for me.
He does have a smug voice, i find it really calming though, he should do audio books.
