Sick of this bullshit.
Its got nothing to do with patient safety whatsoever and everything to do with money and shifts.
Typically brilliant editing as per usual though.

So removing penalties giving trusts free reign to work docs
beyond reasonable hours isn't a safety issue?
Thanks for your contribution!

Nope, don't read the Guardian.
But I am a doctor, so I do know. What is it you do, apart from spout tedious goady bollocks from the safety of your bedroom?
Just so I can start talking shite about your profession you understand?

Shifts have a hell of a lot to do with patient safety
so I can't really see how you're managing to completely separate the two issues.

Hunt is trying to use the same amount of resources across the whole week and that's the real problem.
The idea of 7 day NHS will only happen if there is investment, but the Government doesn't want to do this.
1 of 2 things will happen.
1) Docs will cave in and Hunt gets his wish on the cheap. He can continue to sell off the NHS without objection from this group.
2) It continues to be a shitstorm where he blames the Docs and harps on about privatising the NHS and how it will all be better then and it wont cost us anything more. Like BT, the trains, Electricity , Gas etc.

Conditions used to be far worse before the current contracts came into effect
That's why the contracts were drafted as they are now.
Money is an on the table issue I'm not denying, but don't pretend they're making up the idea of risk to their own and patient's safety.
As the above gentleman has already stated - the real issue here is a making a 7 day NHS out of funding for a 5. What's the answer.... do staff earn less to make it work - which will inevitably lead to the Tory's ideologically preferred method of privatisation? Because those areas of post war nationalisation that have been privatised are so efficient and affordable nowadays.

Point=missed.
It's less about the money, and more about the reclassification of Saturday as a normal routine day between 07:00 and 22:00. Currently there is an uplift for working antisocial hours; this imposed deal slashes it under the banner of necessity to deliver 7 day care.
7 day URGENT care is already being delivered. 7 day NON-URGENT care is not. What Hunt wants is routine clinics available to examine his piles on a Saturday when he doesn't work.
This sounds perfectly reasonable until you realise that the only people who benefit from this are those that don't work weekends anyway. You are therefore press ganging doctors to have their weekends reclassified as normal weekdays so that you don't have to take time off from your 9 to 5, 5 day a week job.
Oh, and he lied about the statistics, lied about his aims, and lied about preconditions for HIM to come back to the negotiation table.
TL;DR Hunt is a cunt, try not to be one yourself.

Yeah but...
It is about time and money. This has a knock on to patient safety but all you hear is patient safety, patient safety, which is just a bit disingenuous. Working shit hours including weekends for no extra pay...join the club. I support junior doctors, JH is doing awful things to the NHS but they shouldn't be on strike, they have to find another way. Local elections are coming up aren't they?

Brilliant, I can't see Hunt lasting long - too toxic - but unfortuanately the process of underfunding
will continue to the point where they say "we have to privatise it because it doesn't work, look!"
