I think you're probably right, he is. Except he's too stuck in his "the people will flock to the left in a crisis" blinkered outlook to realise, that come a crash/crisis, these days, they're more likely to flock to Aaron Banks "New England" party (when its formed), the result of which will be him up against a wall and shot for being incredibly dreary.
He's utterly useless. He couldn't find his way out of a wembley-sized paper bag, even if there were arrows pointing the way out, loudspeakers telling him where to go, and those kind of Olympic-volunteers guiding him. He'd seek a consensus from all working people in the bag following a workers collective meeting. By which point everyone trying to help him would have got so fed up they'd have left, leaving him stuck in the bag.
