Feels just like a warmup to get the actors working together rather than a polished bit of cinema

Glad that's no longer a surprise! I might have been scared / entertained.
The doctors sounding very clinical is he a secret android? My guess is that there's misdirection and it's the main lady girl.
I want to like this but sorry, but since Alien / Aliens I can't get excited for the series anymore.
Alien 3 was ok because of it's style direction and 4 for Ron Perlman but both a little meh compared to their mommy and daddy films.

3 & 4 were amazing. Not as good as 1 & 2, obviously, but a shitload better than anything that'll be in a theatre near you any time soon.
