'Humiliating scam led to mum and daughter licking Poundworld staff's feet after fake phone call'
This is amazing:
"A girl and her mother were subjected to a torturous two-and-a-half-hour hoax in Barnstaple's Poundworld last week during which they were ridden like horses by members of staff and forced to lick their feet by a prank caller who was impersonating a charity worker."
'Forced' is a bit much - they were conned into thinking they could win three grand.
It continues:
'According to her daughter, Pamela who is 55 and has one arm, is horrified by the ordeal. "We are both too scared to go into pound world now. I had to go in again to get these special straws for the holiday because it was the only place where I could get them, and I had to go in with accompanied with other people because I was scared," Naomi said.'
I moved to Devon with my girlfriend last summer. I just said to her "You do realize we now live in the Florida of England..."

i read this earlier,
surely there has to be security cam footage somewhere. I would love to see it!
also, I must plan a trip to Devon, to find out if your statement is correct.

Don't go.
I lived there for five years, it's the type of place where the locals have never been further than the next village. Occasionally you'll meet an adventurous type that says things like "I went to Exeter once. Never again".

I am sure I don't know what you mean
I for one was born in dear old Barnstaple and I have been to Exeter twice the second time was to say sorry.
Good things about Barnstaple
Fishing of the quey for for flat fish
The old flying spanner garage that is now flats
Gorwell cottage
The old market
The new bridge
The old bridge for fishing for Bass
The old guy who used to roast his own coffee in the shop on Wednesday
Bad stuff about Barnstaple
The one way system
The old bridge
The big drug problems
Fremington
Tourists
Shirt jobs during the summer

Not my decision unfortunately.
If I had my way I would still be in Ilfracombe carrying on in my dad's footsteps
Or just fishing of the rocks or what's left of the pier. And if there's a high pressure system over the southwest then it's in the dingy and putter round the cliffs for dogfish pollock and a couple of beers .
Great times
Sometimes you font appreciate a place until you move.

Don't forget to swing by these places
Lynton and Lynmouth lovely little places joined by the cliff railway
Take the walk down from Lynton to Lynmouth have A few drinks in pub next to Mars hill and when your really relaxed take the cliff rail back to Lynton.
Then spend the day in Combe Martin and take walk around lady's wood have lunch in the pack of cards pub and finish of with a wonder round the park where the wolves live.
I could go on and on but part of the pleasure of a new place is finding new things by wondering around almost lost but not .

Couple of years in Northam, then three in Swimbridge
I know Barnstaple and Bideford very well. I worked with a couple of good old Devon boys, one of which told tales of when they used to eat Badger hams (back leg of a badger from what I gather) and hedgehogs, and laver (ugh!) and then he used to rant things along the lines of "I zanzered my lubbies! Drash em wiv a niddile my luvver".

My Brother Merlin lives in Northam
He's the one from Britain's got talent.
Does silly thing for a living like magic escapologist and all round nice bloke just like me but with even less hair and she'd loads of talent.
Currently appearing at the Milkyway park
Last time I was down home I was surprised at home much had changed but stayed the same.

I haven't been back since I left over 20 years ago
but curiosity is getting the better of me, plus I think it would be a great place to take my kids for a holiday and now they will be able to tolerate a six-hour journey.

Awesome day to work there though.
Imagine going home to tell your other half you rode a one-armed customer like a horse. Best. Day. Ever.

The difference is that Florida is shit,
while Devon, Dorset, and Somerset are the best bit of the UK.

I own a holiday pad down in Devon.
And I frequently motor on down from where I normally live in the home counties.
I am precisely the sort of fair-weather cunt that's ruining Devon, and I make no apologies for it.
