A better comparison is a crossfit athlete, going up against a pound for pound pro weightlifter, sprinter, marathon runner, swimmer etc. With enough time to study and practice they could compete in a particular discipline. Thusly so can conor. Add in the fact he's a proper bad ass who doesn't give a fuck, he could do some damage.

You're forgetting about the years and years Mayweather has spent perfecting his technique.
I see your comparison, but it's not particularly accurate.
Mayweather has spent his life executing strikes in accordance with the rules set out by the IBF. He's spent thousands of hours honing his skill and aiming to get to the very top of his game.
McGregor is a top class MMA combatant, sure. But he has to stay within the rules sanctioned by the IBF, and that's where his major handicap will lie.
That, and he's going to be getting punched in the face by somebody who has spent their life exclusively punching people in the face. There's really no comparison at all.

although the only think I will say about Mayweather is his team has managed to dodge any fighter that was ever likely to take the 0 from his 49-0 away from him.
Arguably that fighter was Paquio who hurt him big time, and if the wee man hadn't walked onto that punch it was going to be close

Well that was going to be my other point.
In my opinion, Manny won that fight. But if Manny can't take Mayweather down, how on earth does McGregor intend to?
Pacquiao is probably the best fighter to compare McGregor to in terms of aggression and speed. But again, he's someone who's been doing actual boxing all his life.

mayweather has (had?!) the best defense of any boxer i've seen
and as i understand it mcgregor's forte isn't punching so i genuinely believe he'll have a hard time hitting him let alone landing anything that mayweather doesn't roll. i'd love to see mayweather beaten but this isn't the man to do it unfortunately
