My guess is that probably almost no-one thought that because almost no-one would even have bothered to consider to themselves what shape it was at all.
They probably considered if this patch of land was going to grow a fucking bean or if they were going to die of hunger.

the ancient greeks not only knew that the earth was round
but also knew the circumference!
they did it by digging wells. perfectly straight wells.
in different places. then at the same time they would measure how far the shadow of the well itself went down. from that information they knew the curvature.
