I've been writing about smartphones since 2002
I made this!
..this week I had a bit of a mini explosion on the keyboard.

I like your dating rant, though I'm sure in the past the same thing involved dressing up and getting a proper haircut
Still dating apps, romance reduced to subbuteo-like finger movements, just flick to click

We've all done it. Nothing to be ashamed of, just grab some tissue and move on

I don't remember a golden age of conversation before Smartphones.
I had my Walkman on, ignoring people.

I tried it once
Freaked me out, like walking through a silent movie with my own soundtrack. No way, I felt a real sense of danger not being aware of my surroundings.

Yep - I'm not going to disagree with any of that.
This topic always reminds me of the track "Television, the drug of the nation", except we now have a whole new class of drugs.

When I was a lad.....
I'd be on CB all day weekends and school holidays.
Then I passed my amateur radio licence exam, saved up my newspaper round and pocket money for an FT-290 which cost about as much as an iphone today. Wired it up to a packet tnc and my commodore64 and was exchanging messages with other kids across the globe (in 1984).
When I was out and about on hill tops mainly with my rather cumbersome walkie talkie talking to random strangers in North America I was considered a nutter.
Now that literally everyone on the planet is doing the same it seems the whole world is nuts.
