But no video controls. I'm going to get bored of this REAL fast if it's going to start playing on it's own every time I refresh /links...

Running Firefox 2 on XP SP2 (Firefox/2.0.0.12 to be precise)
No problems with IE6
edit: not sure if related, but if I disable JavaScript in FF, I get a series of Illegal Operation in Plug In error messages relating to WMPlayer DLL Plugin.

I totally can't reproduce this on either Vista or XP. Still trying...
EDIT: 100% clean XP SP2. Firefox 2.0.0.12. Absolutely nothing else (no patches, media player updates, or plugins). Works fine. sigh

from port25.technet.com/pages/windows-media-player-firefox-plugin-download.aspx
and now I get the player controls in FF and can view video with no problems
Presumably I was just using the default FF plugin before, or one that was bundled with wmplayer.

when you weren't getting controls, were you still getting the video? or just the audio?

just as a black square, right size for the video, but no controls and no video or audio. Seems some people have had the video playing automatically, but I didn't experience that

It should give controls, but not autoplay.

No controls, no playback. It just displays [no video] in the centre of the box.

Christ, embedding video is such a fucking mess, with major browsers shipping with broken plugins, it's no wonder online video all ended up in Flash.
