This is a normal post All of the build up hype for this game has saddened me greatly...
All of the videos showing gameplay are done on the Xbox.
I've heard that they wont have any dedicated servers for the PC version.

Seems to me that everyone's giving up on PC gaming in favour of more casual gamers... Dammit, I refuse to play an FPS on a console...

Having said that, MW:2 looks frigging awesome.
(, Sat 7 Nov 2009, 19:53, Reply)
This is a normal post Wait, console gaming is casual?
I'd've thought spending quite a bit of money on a console and then plenty on overpriced disks isn't exactly casual.

But hey, I'm a cheapskate.
(, Sat 7 Nov 2009, 20:13, Reply)
This is a normal post It's very cheap when you're 13 and your parents buy your games.
Which is what most of the console community tends to be. It's also why it's such a lucrative market.
(, Sat 7 Nov 2009, 20:20, Reply)
This is a normal post Yeah.
It won't have dedicated servers for PC and multiplayer will be limited to 9v9, that's if you can find someone with a connection and PC good enough to host a 9v9 game - anyone who's ever tried to play a game of L4D that's hosted on someone else's PC rather than a dedicated server will know the problem here... pings of 300+ anyone?

On top of that if the player hosting disconnects the game pauses for 5 seconds to connect to one of the other players, so you'd better hope they have a good connection and PC too else you're likely to get chain reactions of everyone becoming the host and quitting.

On top of that, on the 'ranked' servers (the ones that progress you through the multiplayer rankings), it's impossible to kick players because Infinity Ward says they aim to eliminate cheaters from the game altogether - which everyone knows is impossible. So if you have someone shooting people through walls and speeding around like a bullet, then you have to go find somewhere else to play.

On top of that, there is no console so you can't tweak anything about the game - apparently this includes many of the binding functions that people use in FPSes.

Infinity Ward have basically turned round and fucked the community their games started on in the arse, royally. It's a pretty big fucking shame.

Shooting unarmed people seems tame compared to dicing civilians into itty bits and devouring their very flesh, or ploughing their heads into the ground and riding their blood soaked corpse down the street whilst it scrapes along the tarmac at 50mph.

Having said that, there was a certain chill down my spine after watching the clip above.

This is a normal post In this video it's the whole point
because the video is made to show the 'TERRIBLE SCENES ON VIOLENCE'. I'd imagine that it's about 2.5 minutes of gameplay out of at least several hours. It also seems that killing innocent people is a means of getting the armed forces to the airport so that they can get into a proper fight.

I'm not condoning this killing of innocent people in games, but you have to remember that it will be a single tiny strand in a rather large, complicated storyarch.

Pots and kettles, anyone who will play the other but not this, is a hypocrite, simple as that!

DIE INFIDELS!!
(, Sat 7 Nov 2009, 20:47, Reply)
This is a normal post You're joking, right?
And all this "one man's terrorist" bit is bollocks. If you operate by inflicting terror in a [civilian] population then you are a terrorist.

Well, that's in my head, at least, so to me you can have both a freedom fighter and a terrorist, but just 'cos they're a freedom fighter doesn't make them any less of a cunt.

(, Sat 7 Nov 2009, 20:49, Reply)
This is a normal post How on earth is it bollocks?
Just because some group gets labelled as a terrorist organisation by a particular government doesn't mean they are. You say terrorists create terror? I say no they fucking don't, the media creates the terror, telling everyone that they are unsafe and have to keep on alert for suspicious behaviour/packages.

All that bollocks about Anthrax! That scared the shite out me at the time as I was going through a rough patch as it was. Why did they suddenly go quiet on the subject? Because they traced a load of it back to some American lab! Who's the terrorist exactly? And that's my whole point. I've been freaked out more by news paper front pages than any "terrorist". We've been told that terrorists look a cetain way, so if you get anyone from the middle east and put him in front of the average dumb as shit English tard, they instantly label them as a terrorist. Just watch how people behave on a tube train when someone wearing a Burkah sits next to them.

You have to look from their prespective, as narrow minded and odd as it might seem to us, that's the whole fecking point. There are countless games where you play "allied" forces and have to brutally kill many innocent people, and yes, people fighting for the other side can still be innocent!

All is fair in love and war.

In fact, earlier today and yesterday and the day before I had a terrible "eurgh" about myself, headache, coughing, the lot; then a few hours ago I had a mug of warm milk and a couple ibuprofen, since then it's all but disappeared.

Who wants to help me conduct experiments into the medicinal applications of warm milk to determine whether it had any effect other than, "Mmm, warm milk."?
(, Sat 7 Nov 2009, 21:35, Reply)
This is a normal post Ah, but in the games they're armed
in this case you're attempting to attack and kill unarmed civilians as your objective.

However, even though I may dither around shooting aliens in Halo 3 or such, doesn't mean I actually want to do it. Also, somewhat on your side with this point, a lot of the 'armed' types in the other games would actually be conscripts; which is a little... awkward.

This is a normal post I might be wrong,
but that makes Nelson Mandela a c**t. Jailed for terrorism. It makes the Russian partisans a bunch of wankers. The French resistance? Tossers! I don't follow your logic on this one (i usually do).
(, Sat 7 Nov 2009, 21:09, Reply)
This is a normal post who's to say terrorists are bad, necessarily? Bad only for those they affect, maybe?
This goes for firkin up there, too.

A terrorist is someone who operates by using terror as the means to their end. That's just a definition of it. As for firkin's saying governments say someone's a terrorist, etc. well... then maybe the people they're accusing aren't actually terrorists. What I was saying is that one man's terrorist *is* another man's terrorist regardless of whether or not they're a freedom fighter also.

Maybe it's best to disregard that final wanker comment, though in most people's opinions those that aim to cause terror amongst a civilian population are generally wankers.

Also, I didn't say terrorists create terror, I said they use it. If everyone just ignored them in their attempts to create, and thus be able to utilise it, then they'd fail horribly at their aim.

So to actually answer in a coherant manner, Mandela may have been jailed for terrorism, but that doesn't make him a terrorist; though he could well have been a freedom fighter. I just consider "freedom fighter" and "terrorist" to be more akin to apples and oranges than two sides of the same coin... if you get me.
(As for the French Revolutionaries, well... yes, they were terrorists, at least during the Reign of Terror.)

Wow, I'm shit at describing things today.
(, Sat 7 Nov 2009, 21:22, Reply)
This is a normal post Im sorry, I really don't get your point!
Terror as a weapon is as old as history itself. Vlad the Impaler used it: surrender in advance, or when we win, you sit on a pole. Jesus used it: do it my way or rot in hell for eternity.
One is reviled, one is loved. But they aren't apples and oranges, they are surely just two men playing on fear to get thier own way.

Did I just really compare Jesus to Dracula? Wow I'm on form tonight :D

This is a normal post Alexander the Great
Told Tyre to surrender. Tyre, hardly knowing who he was, told him to fuck off. Once he won the battle he crucified the inhabitants of the town along the causeway leading to it. Funnily enough everyone else in the region surrendered pretty soon.

I'm having a hard time describing it, but to say that, okay, I'm Jewish. I have issues with Israeli governments, but also support the concept of the intended state. The Irgun may be viewed, through my Jew example as well, as freedom fighters, fighting for freedom from quite a large amount of anti-semitism and pogroms wherever Jews had settled, but the methods they used were terrorism and they were terrorists (and as such I think the Irgun were wankers). So although they may (under different circumstances) have been my freedom fighters they would also be my terrorists. From the 'observer' perspective also I view ETA as a terrorist organisation because they blow up Spanish civilians, whether or not they're freedom fighters is beside this specific point.

Apples and oranges? ...getit?
(The ambiguity comes down to do the oppressed or the minority have any other choice than terrorism really? The Tamil Tigers had the infrastructure to parttake in open warfare, yet they chose to target civilians, so they're right bastards, but Hamas don't really have any other option than terrorism, if they went for only military targets they wouldn't make a dent and wouldn't achieve their aim. Essentially this has been one big conversation of long posts over something that is little more than semantics; I feel dirty for this.)
