Oh, america, what the fuck have you come to.
When someone does not do what you ask, you are not forced to shoot them, even if they are an escapee from a bad zombie movie.
The officer is not a hero. He did not "save" a life. He took one.

Sergeant Altarr Williams, supervisor of Miami police’s Homicide Unit, said a man doesn’t have to be armed to be dangerous.
“There are other ways to injure people,’’ Williams said. “Some people know martial arts, others are very strong and can kill you with their hands.’’
So blowing fuck out of an unarmed man is justified .....AmericanLogic.com :)
It also mentions 'cocaine psychosis' which is an American 'get out of jail free card' if you do blow some poor cunt to fuck who was unarmed (sorry about the swears but it gets on my cock)

Haven't been to US though, I'm sure I'll manage without getting shot.
Sued? Not sure on that front...

most USA types say 'hello' and 'have a nice day' and actually mean it. Many are genuinely interested and very hospitable.
However, if you try to chew off their faces, they might shoot you.
I think that is fair, on balance.

I have to agree though, when I meet Americans they've always seemed very friendly, and they're usually the ones with enough intellectual curiosity to be aware of the rest of the world.
I really need to go to the US, if just to prove/disprove my mental stereotypes of them.

...are similar to our own, in that if you honestly believe that a person poses an imminent threat to your life, or the lives of others, and there is no other way to safely prevent the threat, then you are allowed to use lethal force.

Frankly the policeman did the right thing. I don't particularly think standing there and shooting the guy makes him a hero, but I don't disagree with what he did.

the main bits I'd take from this are:
1, Unarmed
2, Preoccupied with 'chewing face off'
3,'Over a dozen shots fired' what was he trying to do. Make the guy a sieve?
A quick 'taze' some CS and its all gravy. America is nutter homeland, it should be normal procedure to deal with this sort of shit.

American cops have a spray don't they? That would require him to get quite close though. The guy needed to be stopped. Immediately.
The other side of the coin is that the officer didn't react strongly enough, and the victim suffered fatal bites.

once you take the descision to use lethal force, you stick with it. One shot or twenty to neutralise the threat; whatever it takes.
The USA has a LOT of police widows.

there must have been a lump of 2x4 or a shovel around, its not every day you get the chance to take out a zombie

Wasn't a heroic act but he was probably justified in shooting the zomb.

Just to reiterate, he was eating someone's face.

not being a euphemism for "passionately making out with" in this case?
