This is a link post A good point well made about the ALSA ice-bucket challenge
As comments say, when Steve-O and Charlie Sheen are the voices of reason, something's gone wrong.

This is a normal post It was only via B3ta yesterday that I even knew it had anything to do with a chraity.
And I still have no idea what ALS stands for.

This is a normal post I went to their website
...took me quite a while to find out what it is even then as they're far more concerned with RAISING AWARENESS and chucking ice over people.

This is a normal post ALS?
If only there was something that'd enable you to get near-instantaneous access to the sum of human knowledge and endeavour without having to leave your chair.

This is a normal post Just saying that an awareness campaign should at least say what it's trying to make you aware of.
And no. I still haven't looked it up.

This is a normal post He's right, and how nice of him
to donate 0.0004% of his money. It makes Charlie Sheen's 0.00008% pale into insignificance.

This is a normal post this is bullshit.
they should be grateful for anything at all. There are a whole bunch of equally worthy charities. the only reason they are getting anything at all is because people like watching videos of their friends pouring a bucket of ice over their heads, not because they give a shit about the charity. If they had to rely on the attraction of their charity alone, they'd get three fifths of fuck-all.
go ahead, post some the details of some cerebral palsy or motor neuron disease charity here or on facebook and see how much people care

This is a normal post The thing that gets me is that very little charity advertising increases the totality of money given to charities overall, just changes where it goes.
So increased awareness of ALS will decrease funding (for example) to scope etc.
