Soviet Cameras
Conjures up images of spies and such.
Fascinating stuff - and they do have that Soviet look about them.

Fotosniper
Best of all the Soviet cameras
To answer your questions:
Yes I have one, and yes, you do pull the trigger to take the shot.
It was originally built for birdwatching. Soviet thinking goes "See Dmitri, rifle is steady and accurate long distance. You want also take foto, so put camera on rifle. Easy." [vodka ensues]

There are variants of this concept available for DSLRs
I've been tempted, but think you'd look like too much of a prat using it.

I saw a how to guide
for putting a dslr on it. You basically attach a bluetooth remote to the trigger. I've managed to get the lens to work on a canon dslr though :)

The Sovs weren't the first to come up with that concept.
I forget the guy's name, but he was a big game hunter between the wars, had seen his fill of killing and decided that he'd keep on going on safari but take photos instead of shooting the animals.

Takes me back to 1977
My first 'Proper' camera was a Zenit-E. Built like a tank, and so heavy it had it's own gravity well!
