that isn't an even slightly good argument against the message.
(, Wed 19 Apr 2017, 12:26, , Reply)
This is a normal post Yes it is: the majority of people are stupid.
Average IQ is 100. An arbitrary score given to the zenith of the bell curve / normal distribution. So it is a figure approaching 50% of the global population that find themselves to the left of that zenith. Nearly half the world has an IQ in double figures. Thus the credibility of the messenger is of the most extreme importance.
(, Wed 19 Apr 2017, 12:44, , Reply)
This is a normal post I'm not saying it isn't natural for humans to misinterpret available data,
or to use irrelevant data as though it is relevant.

What I'm saying is, that the message is true or not, irrespective of the messenger. Actively debating the message but using the messenger as evidence will result in flawed conclusions.

Yes, it's natural for humans to do this. No, you should know better.

... I just wish we could ignore who's saying stuff and concentrate on what they say.

This is the problem with democracy.
An argument is objectively invalid but we have to take it into consideration because 50 million fuckwits will ponder it seriously because it came from someone who their grandma likes.
Or an argument is objectively well considered and but will be completely ignored because it came from that fuckface who once did a fucking thing they hate.
(, Wed 19 Apr 2017, 14:34, , Reply)
This is a normal post Um, are we talking at cross purposes?
I don't believe that a dichotomy can truly exist between a message and its messenger because I don't believe that humans are capable of of any true level of objectivity. Ergo, it is not just the content that matters, form is important too.

This is a normal post I apologise for failing to communicate effectively.
The figure of 100 for the score at the top of normal distribution is what is arbitrary. They simply decided that the commonest level of intelligence would score 100. They could have chosen 50. Or 75. They didn't. They chose 100.

But then over half are average or above.

Your argument is as valid as proclaiming a glass to be half empty and claiming this proves empty will always win.

Your logic is bad and you should feel bad. At least you are in the 52% majority, right?

What it means in the real world is that marginals win elections, not that the stupid rule the smart or vice versa.

We knew that before, we still know it. It is a failing of the first past the post system and is inevitable in that system.

His basic idea is "see if your MP will put Country before Party" which is laughable. Not to mention MPs (sitting and standing) are just as split on the EU as the population.
(, Wed 19 Apr 2017, 12:23, , Reply)
This is a normal post I'm really not sure about MPs being as split as the country.
My impression is that the majority of MPs were pro EU. It was in fact a party that no longer has a single MP and a smallish fringe of Tory backbenchers that Cameron thought he could quash quite easily with a referendum.
(, Wed 19 Apr 2017, 12:34, , Reply)
This is a normal post That's my impression too.
The anti EU left was very badly represented in parliament and most tories know a nice gravy train when they spot one.

They only voted for the referendum because cameron thought it would shut his fringe up and the left thought it would tear the right apart.

HAH!
(, Wed 19 Apr 2017, 12:43, , Reply)
This is a normal post Aye.
The talk of a internecine civil war tearing the Tories apart over the EU was much exaggerated. Times have changed since Major and his cabinet of "bastards" in 1992. Yes, there was an awkward squad whose numbers were in double figures, but really it was Dave's fear of losing votes to UKIP that compelled him to call the referendum.

This is a normal post Haven't decided yet
I live a rock solid labour seat so it won't make any difference what I vote. Again. I will be sneering at explicit calls for tory government on here though

This is a normal post Red/blue it doesn't matter. Two cheeks of the same arse.
Labour just pretend to care whilst they fuck you in the butt, the tories just don't pretend to care.

A labour council sold off the nice country house that was my sister in laws day centre for apartments, under a labour government. They are as nasty as the tories. I respect the reasons why people vote for them, but frankly I think they are deluded.

Show me a party where the MPs are actually customers of the public services they provide rather than sending their kids to private schools and telling us grammars are discriminatory and taking out private health care. Hypocritical shite fucks one and all.

This is a normal post Progressive Alliance?
I think you mean bickering and ineffectual coalition. The SNP are utterly incapable of any alliance that doesn't result in the break up of the UK. Labour have turned so far left even the Lib Dems would find them impossible to deal with. The fact is that any si called progressive alliance would demand the Brexit vote to be ignored. If progress means over-ruling a democratic referendum, failure is destined.

This is a normal post The problem with aliances and coalicions is they absolve those elected of their manifesto promises.
See: Tuition fees.
(, Wed 19 Apr 2017, 8:02, , Reply)
This is a normal post Part of the problem seems to be that people tend to
vote for the party and not the candidate. If someone is shit at being an MP, they'll usually just get re-elected regardless of the competition.
(, Wed 19 Apr 2017, 0:48, , Reply)
This is a normal post Whist the record of an m.p is important granted the party is too.
The m.p is standing on the manifesto pledges it's party decides.

I don't get this type of reasoning you are just painting yourself into a corner. That was under Tony Blair and Gordon Brown...the whole reason everyone hates Corbyn is because he isn't that.
(, Wed 19 Apr 2017, 8:14, , Reply)
This is a normal post The hate seems to be more about the lack of charisma.
I can see him being great local MP, but he's a bland speaker.
(, Wed 19 Apr 2017, 10:14, , Reply)
This is a normal post Nope its about his insane delusions of what the world is like
And what he feels needs fixing, both of which don't appear to have changed since 1975. Someone needs to point out to him that the country has things like minimum wages, health and safety, more than a 3 day working week etc.

He's a bad orator too, but it's the "being a fuckwit" I have a problem with.

This is a normal post You mean the same reasoning that made people bleat on about Thatcher long after she left power?

(, Wed 19 Apr 2017, 10:55, , Reply)
This is a normal post Not me but...
Thatcher did untold lasting damage to many communities across the country...where as Blair did untold lasting damage across someone else's country. Not voting Tory ever again because "Thatcher" is just as dim as not voting Labour ever again because of Blair.
(, Wed 19 Apr 2017, 12:36, , Reply)
This is a normal post Every election I read each party's manifesto, and take an objective view on it all.
I won't be voting Labour as Corbyn's close allies are Abbot, Chakrabati and McDonnell.

They think it's fine to limit choice in education for people who can't afford private schools, happy to swap a peerage for a whitewash, and think taxing people who are already paying their fair share of PAYE more is the solution to the current funding shortage.

A party of jealousy and hypocrisy. A pox on them I say.
