This is a link post UK Local Government Boundary Changes - Have Your Say
With the decision to allow users to enter a post code, send in a comment and annotate a map. So I expect a lot of future constituencies will be CDC shaped.

This is a normal post gerrymandering the fuck out of the place

(, Tue 17 Oct 2017, 11:13, , Reply)
This is a normal post yep my Labour voting town nicely split into 3 to include local Tory voting rural areas
and a larger Tory town in one of these areas outnumbers the population in our town. Ain't democracy great?
(, Tue 17 Oct 2017, 11:24, , Reply)
This is a normal post even without the potential gerrymandering
some divides are bizarre; splitting some rural towns and villages along rivers so half a community falls in a completely different town's constituency.

Splitting along a river makes more sense in a city where different areas more naturally fall either side of a river.

This is a normal post we have the tech to do this kind of stuff objectively and anonymously
in fact it's technically trivial. The problem is nobody will ever sanction it. the Boundaries Commission supposed impartiality is a joke - as soon as one party or another gets in they change everything (or as much as they can get away with) to suit their needs, it's utterly un-scientific, led by lawyers and the political party of the day.

If we still have FPTP isn't this always going to be a bit of a waste of time? That is...if historical boundaries are such for practical reasons changing to get proportional areas under FPTP seems nonsensical?

Of course that means nothing in the decision as to whether we keep it as our only route to any form of democracy.

Two pieces of sweeping generalisation? And therefore a bit bigoted in itself.

You seem to be what you hate.
(, Tue 17 Oct 2017, 20:14, , Reply)
This is a normal post Let's not forget that all the metropolitan racists voted for it too

(, Tue 17 Oct 2017, 20:51, , Reply)
This is a normal post Exactly
I am sure the common link is that they are racists which is the reason they voted for it rather than where they lived.

People should not attribute generalised characteristics of a few people onto all of a group of people based on where they live or were born.

I'm sure there is a word for when people do that, can't think of it right now.

Now I am also sure that not everyone who voted brexit is a racist, but I am pretty sure all the racists voted for brexit. I know some people who voted leave and while they may sometimes rant about jews when drunk I am sure that means nothing. If they were asked they would say they were not racist. They voted leave `so we would not be America's bitch any more`

Great, that has no chance of happening.

Some hilariously wanted to stick it to the tories, some were activists who just wanted a chance to do something, anything, so they decided to fuck things up for everyone else. One deluded bitch even voted leave because `jupiter was trine with Pluto so whatever I did would have been the right thing`.

Christ on a pogo stick, this is democracy, eh?

My anecdotal evidence suggests that leave voters were racists, or those stupid enough to be fooled by racists. Or astrologers, which is worse IMO. Would the vote still be respected if it were found that 2% were astrologers?

In a sane world, no.

(, Wed 18 Oct 2017, 13:06, , Reply)
This is a normal post Democracy
This is what you have here. Pick out the minority who vote for all sorts of bizarre reasons but the majority is what matters. Using anecdotal evidence and statements which include every person in a group ("all racists vote Brexit" or the implied meaning of "would the vote be respected if it were found that 2% were astrologers") are at best unhelpful and at worst just as bigoted - you make a good point in your second paragraph and then go against it in the rest if the post. Again, you just can't sweep everyone into one pile. That is the same thing the people you hate are doing.

It still has moments but when the produce/writer left (series 7?) it just turned into weed, booze, unfunny swears and vulgar 1D characters. John was great throughout however.

This is a link post ...so I got married last week

...and am currently in Zurich on honeymoon. I was going to post some Sigur Ros as we're seeing them play on Wednesday but I thought I'd post this instead as it's decidedly more-B3ta. It's GC because I posted it before, I was reminded of it by that FB memory thing.

Sigur Ros are awesome live though.

Please would you refrain from the current trend of starting sentences with the word "so"?

Swap the word "so" for the word "therefore" and see how little sense it makes.

This is a normal post Is it a sentence? The ellipsis prefixing it suggests an informal fragment, used, in this case to communicate something of great import with modest understatement.

Ignore the fuckwit who has clearly never read anything more challenging than Dan Brown.

So don't forget to tell all the hotels and restaurants it's your honeymoon. And the airline. They won't all bite, but we got some pretty sweet upgrades.

This is a normal post Sigur Ros are indeed excellent live. Seen them at least 3 times.
First saw them supporting Radiohead in 2000 at Tredegar House in Newport (don't think Agaetis Byrjun was out then). Wasn't sure about the violin bow guitaring at first, but man it grew on me. Top notch stuff.

Aslo, congrats on the nuptials, sir.

Have you thought about starting an online music review site, perhaps in partnership with an (equally-as-talented) Stockport-based film trailers reviewer?
