this used to get a fair reaction among the assange haters, but these days it seems like small potatoes
Here is his police transcript just made public.
well maybe haters is too strong a word. a fair few b3tans found him smug, arrogant, and therefore he must be guilty the white-haired twat.
though this is admittedly just his side of the story, I read a lot about the case at the time, and I found the actions of swedish prosecutor highly irregular at best, a massive injustice to assange at worst. I don't claim some conspiracy theory with the US, it seemed much more motivated by the rather extreme political views of the original lawyer (and gender spokesman for the SD party) Borgström, who claims that all men carry a collective responsibility for violence against women and supports a "tax on men". He successfully appealed to reopen the investigation when the original prosecutor said there was insufficient evidence to proceed. His client then fired him saying that he was only interested in media attention. the case was then pushed by prosecutor Ny who pre and post assange advocates "preventative detention for men accused of rape but not found guilty", which seems to somewhat depart from the "Innocent until proven guilty" bothersome precept. If you look at the way the swedish prosecutor have managed the case at each step at the way, as well as the leaked testimony of the alleged victim (not ethical, but no one has denied it's veracity), it seems like a cack-handed collusion between a rather stalky woman and two individuals with overt political agendas and ambitions that stood to be bolstered by a high profile case. anyway that's my two pence.

He sounds like a deeply unpleasant human being
"I felt concerned about the intensity of [her] interest and I also deeply loved another woman, which played on my mind and left me emotionally distracted"
but still managed to fuck her twice anyway

you cant make a judgement based on this transcript alone, you need all the evidence.
I often read reports from court where I think 'yeah, he definitely did it' and the jury ends up acquitting. The proper place for all this to be considered is a prosecutor's desk and then a court room if he thinks there's enough evidence to proceed, not in the newspapers

Fair point
But I'm only saying what I think is likely, I'll never know 100%.

hahaha, that makes someone perfect does it?
weird, I assumed not putting your cock in people you are "concerned about" was quite an easy thing to do. I must be superhuman.

I'm not talking about rape, just poor choices of sexual paetner?

How often have you got in to bed with someone you have concerns about (while being deeply in love with someone else at the time)?

Mate, with my boat race my only concern is that it's consensual.

What you are describing is a classic misguided rebound after a broken heart scenario.
That is, hardly unusual.

^This
When my ex dumped me I was still madly in love with her. I fucked her best mate. It was a stupid thing to do, I shouldn't have done it, I was concerned about her intensity, especially as she was essentially throwing away a friendship, when I realised she was in love with me I broke it off which made things worse. It was a stupid thing to do but it was consensual.

I think he should have gone to Sweden to clear his name.
Sweden is a civilised liberal democracy that has due process and a legitimate criminal justice system. If he's so obviously innocent he would have had no problem clearing his name. The whole 'I'd have been extradited to the USA' I don't buy. If any country in Europe would've extradited him, it would've been the UK.

I wouldn't be so trusting about US intentions or their willingness to nab people on foreign soil, from what I've read
I'm not saying his coming to the UK was a brainy move, but I think he has some legitimate fears of extradition wherever he might be, especially if he's already on remand somewhere. Remember that hacker they wanted extradite and put away for life for leaving a few juvenile easter eggs on the pentagon system. what was his name? Assange's website has been a thousand times more damaging, and these day they don't fuck around

really dont know much about the extradition process or Swedish law
My feeling is, a long-standing liberal democracy and ally has asked for his extradition to try him for something that is illegal here, that should be the end of it. You've got to trust them to run their own legal system havent you?

Actually, they didn't want to try him, just interview him.
Had he stayed in Sweden they wouldn't have been able to arrest him on that basis.
What they did was issue a European Arrest Warrant after he left, which you can issue with far less evidence, and the receiving country isn't allowed to question it, and it lets you incarcerate the subject when you do get him back. So you get to defer it to the receiving country to actually make the arrest even when you don't have grounds yourself.

Same shit the Amsterdam police pulled on that game show guy who claimed he punched a homeless man into a canal. Boy do they have egg on their face now ;)

friendly countries being able to bring suspects in for questioning across borders seems fair I reckon
Again, it hinges on trust. Do we trust Sweden to treat him fairly. I do

Yes, but when the system to do so can be invoked on weaker grounds than your own arrest procedures
Then it's widely open to abuse.
And it's being abused a lot, for example in petty little arguments over trespass on property near to borders, where there would be insufficient grounds to arrest someone in-country, but as soon as they go back across the border a prosecutor (i.e not even a judge) can sign a bit of paper than forces the other country's police to then make an arrest.
And you trust a prosecutor who has openly stated that she believes all men are partly responsible for sexual abuse cases and thus should, by law, be forced to pay a subsidy to compensate victims?

Have to admit i've changed my opinion of him
I used to think he was a smug little twat who was avoiding the law for being a bit rapey.
However i've been reading the email leaks and come to a new understanding.
I now think he is a smug little twat who is avoiding the law for being a bit rapey but has some useful stories to tell.
BTW there's a good chance he's actually sitting in Guantanamo bay right now and has been since his internet was cut.
