B3ta 19 - 23rd November 2001
"We're saving the web, but not the cats"
-------------------------------------------------

: CATS ARE EVIL

What is it with the Internet & cats? Why do
people keep sending B3ta sites about cats?

It appears that animals go in & out of fashion.
Back in '95 it was cows - more recently it was
monkeys - and then came the kittens.

  Enough! No more cats.

-------------------------------------------------
According to superstitious old people, kittens
born in the month of May will bring snakes into
the house.
-------------------------------------------------

: KILL THE SPACE KITTENS
In this extremely shit "fast-action shooty game"

"I am sick of cats", says game creator Afroman,
"and pleased that B3ta is standing up for the
campaign against cats on the Internet."

"For I know that cats are evil. And the voices
  tell me to kill them."

Here's the result of Afroman's voices: a game
which involves poking space kittens with a
  knife, making them explode.

Gerard Daigle, 80, from Canada lost a pint of
blood after his cat Touti launched an attack.
-------------------------------------------------

: PSYCHO TECHNO HYPNO KITTEN SNAKE
Play the Nokia snake game with a kitten.

"I'm really bored of cats", says creator
Joel Veitch, "and thought that if I created a
game featuring a really really pretty one -
  I could put people off."

Play it - it's aversion therapy:

-------------------------------------------------
A New Zealand man drowned after falling into
his pet cat's water bowl.
-------------------------------------------------

: THE TOUCHING STORY OF SPEEDY THE KITTEN

Speedy is a black and white kitten who was
  born without a pelvis.

To enable him to walk - vet Dr. Edwin Jeszenka
constructed him a cart made from the childrens
  toy.

Look at him and laugh cruelly:

The Scilly Isles has no cats.

: B3TA IMAGE CHALLENGE
Results - winner - new challenge.

Each week we run a competition to test your
creative skills. We find an image, and you
make our brain explode by mucking it up.

Last week was Dr. Harold Shipman

The winner? Matt Leach's "Roger Moore"

(BTW: Our site was down for most of this
week. We've now changed server - and we're
  back. Yay.)

There is a cat in Canada with 26 toes. It's evil.

: LINK OF THE WEEK
  Secret Santa.

Want to swap Christmas presents a random person
who you've never met? Then you need Secret
  Santa.

"The idea of Secret Santa is very simple - you
pull a name out of a hat and buy that person a
present," says co-creator Tom. "Your name is in
the hat as well, so in return you get a present
  from someone else. Easy!"

"The site uses Amazon wishlists to make everything
run smoothly and is designed to be a nice way for
people running personal sites on the net to
  spread the love."

Go on - at least it doesn't contain cats:

-------------------------------------------------
Seeing a black cat brings bad luck. Spitting
on it reverses this.

: NEXT WEEK

  The cats strike back ...
