All parents lie to their kids. How did your parents lie to you. Perhaps you yourself are a parent and lie to your children, tell us about that too.

toothbrushes
My parents told me I mustn't rinse my toothbrush under the hot tap as it will make the bristles go all curly. Im nearly 50 and I still dint know if this is true or a way of saving hot water.

Congratulations, you've managed to reach late middle age with no understanding of rising mains and drinkable water.

You mind explaining?
Because this is the same reason I was always given for why I shouldn't drink from the cold water tap in the bathroom.

Only. If the bathroom tap is fed from a header tank and not directly from the main.
Header tank can equal stale water, dead bugs/birds etc. Would be likely an older house really.

I was told the same thing
But the reason was "warm water can erode enamel". I think that is more likely.

At a guess would soften the bristles
So probably wear out faster, be less effective on teeth etc.

What you want is stainless steel bristles.

I once tried to sterilize a toothbrush in a mug of water in a microwave
All the bristles fell out.
Though I doubt your hot water tap got that hot.
