This is a question Bad Ideas

"Let's get all the fireworks and pile dog shit on top of them". I can't believe I actually said that, and I still can't believe I was the one who lit them and couldn't run away in time. Tell us about your spectacularly misjudged ideas.

Selling my flat
Bought for 44k.
Decided to sell it in late 1999 for 54k as "Surely it can't keep going up in price for much longer and I'll cash in on ten grand".

Yeah, reckon I lost almost £80,000 compared to what it was worth 6 years later.

"Of course, I didn't want to live there any more;
but I figured it must be worth hanging on grimly for as long as possible, just in case the property market did something."

It's merely a matter of time before Dozer turns up and decides he knows more about financial markets etc than anybody else on earth.
Henceforth I will not be returning to this thread.

I bout my 1st house for 54K sold it for 120K it's now worth 200K
I expect in 10 years time it might be worth 300K that's the thing about house prices they go up, and you need/want to move.

If I had a pound for every time I've heard (read)someone getting confused/annoyed about this I'd have at least £20 by now

Yeah
They're right, no doubt you would have had to buy somewhere else, which was cheaper than it would have been in a few years....All things being relative and all that.
