This is a question Banks

Your Ginger Fuhrer froths, "I hate my bank. Not because of debt or anything but because I hate being sold to - possibly pathologically so - and everytime I speak to them they try and sell me services. Gold cards, isas, insurance, you know the crap. It drives me insane. I ALREADY BANK WITH YOU. STOP IT. YOU MAKE ME FRIGHTED TO DO MY NORMAL BANKING. I'm angry even thinking about them."

So, tell us your banking stories of woe.

No doubt at least one of you has shagged in the vault, shat on a counter or thrown up in a cash machine. Or something

Coppers
Tomorrow I am going to take around £100 in 1p's and 2p's and 5p's to get changed into real money. You know the stuff that folds.

The last time I did this, the cashier looked at me as if I were holding a live pig and asking them to slaughter it.

That's because
they ain't legal tender.

Expect some kind of charge.

whatahellyoumean?
I'm not sure that legal tender even comes into play here, since it is a deposit to a bank.

And if it did then, 20p in 1p/2p is legal tender, and £5 of 5p is legal tender also. If they wanted to be crappy about it, they might refuse to take more than 20p in 1p/2p + £5 of 5p at a time.

They'll charge you
best take it to a supermarket and put it in one of those machines. The next time you need to go shopping that is as you'll have to spend at least some of it in the store.

I wouldn't consider £5 of 5p legal tender BTW, maybe a large supermarket would.

Er no
Don't use the supermarket machines, they take anywhere from 7 to 12%.

If you go to the bank you bank with they can't really refuse and have to do it for free, although I imagine they would find it helpful if you bagged them up into bags of £1 worth, then they can just weigh them to confirm there is enough in there.

I took £30 in 1ps 2ps and others all bagged up properly and it took the cashier approximately 30 seconds to weight the bags to confirm and give me paper cash.

I don't think
legal tender means what you think it means. Look it up on the internet or in a book.
