This is a question My Biggest Disappointment

Often the things we look forward to the most turn out to be a huge let down. As Freddy Woo puts it, "High heels in bed? No fun at all. Porn has a lot to answer for."

Well, Freddy, you are supposed to get someone else to wear them.

What's disappointed you lot?

When I went to see
I am Legend at the cinema.

What a load of shit.

^ I did wonder where it was going to go
but I saw it at home on DVD and I did tear up when he had to kill the dog :(

I saw that on my birthday
With my Ex.
In Ipswich.
It sucked.

The coolest things about it were:
1) The fact that Mike Patton did the voice/noises of the creatures.

2) The fact that he stabs one of the zombie/warewolf/vampire/rubbish-things in the nuts with a screwdriver.

Aha! Someone that can back me up on the Mike Patton thing. I was beginning to think I'd made it up, or it was an urban legend in the making; like Bob Holness doing the sax solo in 'Baker Street'.
(, Thu 26 Jun 2008, 14:39, closed)
Yep he did!
Have you played The Darkness?
He did the voice of "The Darkness" in that, fucking amazing.
(, Thu 26 Jun 2008, 14:40, closed)
I quite liked it actually

Better than a lot of the wank out there at the moment...

it was good up to the point he had to kill the dog
then they decided that everyone's eyes would be so full of tears that they needn't bother with a plot for the rest of the film.

@Kaol
I haven't but I do recall reading he did that as well.
I love Mr Patton! In a completely maculine way.

Mr Maladicta loves German Shepherds, but isn't good at the whole crying thing, so I was amazed to hear snifflings coming from next to me while we were watching ... then again, I cry at Garfield specials.
(, Thu 26 Jun 2008, 14:45, closed)
It's based on a book!
Therefore being called I Am Legend it should reflect the book. It didn't. It may have have good bits of filmaking in it, and the dog scene was a bit sad, but the special effects were horrendously crap and it was nothing like the bloody book!

I really liked the book.

Hence my huge disappointment.

Sadly, I can never play The Darkness seriously, having seen the Zero Punctuation review of it.

"liquorice twizzlers".
(, Thu 26 Jun 2008, 14:46, closed)
Haha!
I loved it, great fun game!

They do look a bit like twizzlers with faces though...

In other news, I went to pick up a friend last night, got to his house, let myself in, crept up the stairs, to where he was watching TV, snuck up behind him, put on my best Darkness voice and growled/snarled/squeeled "Jaaaackkii" in his ear, and grabbed him.

I've never heard someone scream so loud.

I loved the book
read it ages ago and can't remember what happens

except that it's not like the film
(, Thu 26 Jun 2008, 14:50, closed)
Is the book worth reading?
I'm working my way through the Bourne books.
Soooo much better than the films, and I love the films!

Ending
Have you seen the alternate ending (which should have been the real ending)?
(, Thu 26 Jun 2008, 14:53, closed)
me too!
Love the book but it got raped by the film.
I don't see the point of making a film of a book thats NOTHING LIKE the book. They should have at least changed the name like they did with "The Omega Man" etc... or just not have made the film at all.
Cnuts

Well, more to the point, I can't play it because I don't have a PS3. Mr Maladicta wants to trade in his 360 and save up for one, but that might not be for a while yet... he's waiting for the new Sonic or Final Fantasy to come out.
(, Thu 26 Jun 2008, 14:55, closed)
Maladicta...
It's on the 360, you can pick it up for about a tenner, pre-owned.

There are 3 plots that I know of:
Cinematic release: Weakest of the three, let down by special effects in places, still a very enjoyable and atmospheric film

DvD alternate ending: Changes more than just the ending. I prefer it to the cinematic release but it's still not best.

Book: Enormously different storyline* and setting, far more bleak, justifies the title and is by far the best story of the three (IMO).

If you've seen the film, read the book. If you've not seen the film, read the book.

*sample of degree of different-ness: the infected can talk, and they know where he lives from the outset.

I own The Darkness
The Darkness' voice acting is terrifying. Is it true that's his actual voice, no special effects or anything? I love the demon arm!
(, Thu 26 Jun 2008, 16:53, closed)
SO TRUE
thank you
(, Thu 26 Jun 2008, 20:26, closed)
I found it hilarious
Not the actual movie - that was godawful - but, while I was watching it in a packed cinema, it came to the part where the dog's dying, and someone up the back cried, "Sam!" in the most heartfelt voice imaginable.

I cried tears of laughter

loved the book but it got raped by the film
I join that bandwagon
(, Fri 27 Jun 2008, 4:17, closed)
the bit at the end,
where the "main" vampire bloke is headbutting the plexglass- he looks SO happy, like he's having the time of his life. Just watch it, it's fucking hillarious!

Too bad its a shitty arse-rape of a film.
