This is a question Things we do to fit in

"When I was fifteen," writes No3L, "I curled up in a Budgens trolley while someone pushed it through the supermarket doors to nick vodka and Benny Hedgehogs, just to hang out with my brother and his mates."

What have you done to fit in?

Back in the day
when everyone was dying the the hair framing their face blonde, I had very dark, nearly waist-length hair. And I wanted to fit in.

So I dyed the two front strips of my hair, either side of my be-spectacled, acne-ridden teenage face. With Sun-In. The hair didn't turn an exciting and remarkable shade of sun-kissed blonde. It turned Bright. Ginger.

I got laughed at. Didn't stop me doing stuff to try and be accepted though. More of that anon.

Haha!
There's something about very dark hair that does that.

I had a Korean friend at school who tried to bleach his hair, and ended up a kinda "Strawberry Blonde" colour.

God I've done that.
I wanted a blue stripe instead of blonde, but because of my dark hair had to go blonde first.

Same thing. Awful, isn't it? I had to dye my whole head of hair black again.

I didn't learn.
At uni, I wanted to dye strips of my hair bright pink. Of course, that meant dying the strips blonde first. I managed to use proper hair bleach this time around (instead of Sun-In), but wasn't too good at the application. Instead of the clear, neat blonde strips I'd imagined, the bleach got every where, especially round my roots. I looked like I was going bald on top. I had to sneak down to the local 24 hour Sainsburys at buy black hair dye and just went dark again instead.

Moral: if you're doing complicated stuff with your hair, get it done by a pro.

I'll see your Sun-In
and raise you an attempt to bleach my hair, aged about 12. With Domestos.

Ginger is NOT FTW.

I'll see your domestos, and raise this...

It was meant to be to lighten my hair to dye it blue, but the blue dye was split, we went back to get more and they'd run out!

I was like this for 3 days! I thought it was funny, the girl whose house I was at didn't
