There is apparently a cultural norm for which side people walk on when passing each other
I think in America, it's on the left (opposite to driving side). In big cities, I think it gets repressed. I think it's either on the right (or on your left as you prefer) in Britain or either.

So you're not all that odd.

What-ho!
I'm sure its to do with being able to draw a sword, so everyone would stay on the left hand side of the road in case a BRIGAND came by.
