This is a question Impulse buys

I'm now the owner of a monster trampoline that's nearly too big for the garden. Tell us your retail disasters and triumphs.

How many people here bought a PS3 on impulse?
Should have gone for the Xbox 360, half the price and has a better range of games.

Ooh
You big fat troll you.

Oops
I bought both!

Hehe...
...me too! Then sold the PS3 and brought it back again about a year later. Had a Wii and sold that too, the xbox is the only thing thats stayed...well I say stayed, it got the red ring of doom so I have an Elite now, still need to send the other one off to Microsoft! Garrr!

And I'm more than happy with my purchase.

I bought one of the original 60GB versions for the Blu-Ray/SACD player.

The card reader was a nice touch to view pictures on a large TV.

The fact it played games (including my sons PS2 stuff) was just a bonus.

The biggest plus was that it wasn't lining the pockets of MICROSOFT.
(, Fri 22 May 2009, 10:41, closed)
Yeah
Because Sony is much better. Totally.
(, Fri 22 May 2009, 11:19, closed)
But we had
dozens of PS2 games to play
(, Fri 22 May 2009, 10:34, closed)
there's the added bonus
that the ps3 is supposed to be the best blu-ray player on the market, it will have a longer life to it (look at the ps2), it's not made by microsoft, having an xbox is indicative of being a cunt, you can play the old ps2 games, the tv tuner freeview thing is great, controllers are better....

the list goes on.

The 1st time
I have ever clicked 'I LIKE THIS' for a reply.

Well said Sir!

I've got an xbox.
Who you calling a cunt, sunshine?
(, Fri 22 May 2009, 11:24, closed)
Be a real shame seeing Sony fold because they have
invested so much money in a console that is virtually impossible to code for.
Also most PS3 games only run in 1080i, shame really.
Still, you sound happy with your purchase.

Having lived with both
I prefer the PS3 by an enormous margin.

Not saying there's anything wrong with an Xbox, just my personal preference.
(, Fri 22 May 2009, 12:10, closed)
I don't have one
as I don't have the enough time to devote to it. saving myself a load of money as I'd have to buy a new tv to replace my 21 inch CRT

the above is true though.

The Blu-ray
player in the PS3 was superceded about 2 months before last Christmas...

.
Those people who buy a PS3 & justify it because they can play their PS2 games on it are surely missing something - i.e. what did you play them on before you had the PS3?

I don't care either way, as everyone is entitled to their own opinion - play what you want & don't worry what other people do. Personally i've got an xbox 360. But then again, I am a cunt.

Well...
Most of your points have nothing to do with the games (apart from the controller, I don't mind either consoles effort)..

Both consoles to me have been a bit of a let-down - where are the "killer apps"? This generation has seen gaming put on the back pedestal for other agendas. This generation has seen graphics take more precedence over anything than ever before.

In any genre almost no actual gameplay progress has been made:

Half-Life
Pro Evolution 4/5/6
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Red Alert 2 / Total Annhiliation
Total War series (admittedly Empire is the best ever, but across the genre there has been almost no progress)
Virtua Fighter 4
Gran Turismo / Sega Rally

Across all genres the only real changes have been aesthetic. In some cases even gone backwards (football games).

I'm entirely with you on this
which is why I still have a ps2 and play nothing but burnout: revenge, GTA San Andreas, and Tony Hawks, if I ever play anything

I dug out GT on an impulse the other week
(still having the PS1 hooked up to the telly out of nostalgia) and f*** me, it's bobbins now compared to the likes of Forza.
it was fantastic at the time, but it definitely has been improved upon.
(, Fri 22 May 2009, 20:15, closed)
Nah...
I've got a PS2, a 360 and a wii in the house.

I'm considering buying a PS3 at some point in the future, but only because the thought of playing Street Fighter 4 on an X-box controller is an alien concept to me.
(, Fri 22 May 2009, 12:54, closed)
It's no better on a PS3 controller.
What you need is a madkatz fightpad. They are fucking tough to get hold of, and cost £35 for the basic model, but are WORTH IT!
(, Fri 22 May 2009, 13:02, closed)
it was the 'it doesnt matter how much we charge for it, people will buy the PS3'
line from the Sony boss that stuck in my craw.
and the game library for the 360 is far better. where is the killer game for the PS3 though? the N64 had Goldeneye, PS1 had GT, Wipeout and the like, Xbox have had Halo - there is nothing for the PS3 that makes me think 'I have to have one'.
