This week Gary Gygax, co-creator of Dungeons and Dragons, died. A whole generation of pasty dice-obsessed nerds owes him big time. Me included.
So, in his honour, how nerdy were you? Are you still sunlight-averse? What are the sad little things you do that nobody else understands?
As an example, a B3ta regular who shall remain nameless told us, "I spent an entire school summer holiday getting my BBC Model B computer to produce filthy stories from an extensive database of names, nouns, adjectives, stock phrases and deviant sexual practices. It revolutionised the porn magazine dirty letter writing industry for ever.
Revel in your own nerdiness.

I have a crush on someone from b3ta. A crush on someone who I have only encountered through words on screens. I suspect this person is somewhat of a nerd. I am unafraid to admit this. I am attracted to the mind of a nerd. Who I have never spoken to but who makes me laugh, and think, and wish I lived quite a long way away from here so I could 'casually' bump into this person.
You can keep your binary discussions, your Doctor Who debates, and your Warhammer figurines. You can keep your ASCII and your BBC Basic (I did write a program in that about 16 years ago) and I shall keep my little crush warm.
The question remains though - who is the nerdiest? Said person? Or the person, me, with the crush?

"I have a crush on someone from b3ta..... I suspect this person is somewhat of a nerd."
From reading this week's QOTW answers, I'd say it's almost certain!

maybe... but I mean that quite specifically about the person in question. Some people (*cough* me *cough*) who live here on b3ta aren't nerds at all in the techie sense of the word. So b3tards aren't aaaaallll nerdy.
Maybe ;)
Maybe I'm nerdier than I think!

to develop a crush based on words alone. They're more powerful than anything else if used correctly.
(, Fri 7 Mar 2008, 14:46, )
Someone this week did say that words were my drug of choice. 'Tis true.

I am very curious too. Of course you probably won't post who it is on here.
Why don't you just gaz them and start up a conversation? You never know where it will lead.
I say go for it.......just because you gaz them doesn't mean they need to know you are interested.
Frank is right, words are extremely powerful.
It is times like this that I am glad that my crush is on someone I see once a week or so. Still not going to say anything to him though......that would be waaaay too scary. I'd much rather have my crush than possible rejection.
hey, I may actually be a nerd after all. Who would have guessed?
(, Sat 8 Mar 2008, 3:19, )
Really.
@flirting with badgers - - I'm too scared to gaz! Like you I quite like the crush part, don't need or want to deal with rejection.
And anyway, I have this paranoid fear that people can read my mind so won't even risk the possibility...

I think you should. Worked for Legless and Mrs Legless... Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Worst they can do is be flattered but say no - I have a good friend who became so due to a totally half-arsed attempt on my part to chat her up.
You know it makes sense...

Good thought, thanks... but I really do believe it's firmly in the 'never gonna happen' box so I'm just happy as I am.
To be honest, I rather suspect I'll end up getting a crush on someone closer to home soon enough. It's just a matter of time. And when that happens, I'll talk to that person. Honest I will.
