This is a question How nerdy are you?

This week Gary Gygax, co-creator of Dungeons and Dragons, died. A whole generation of pasty dice-obsessed nerds owes him big time. Me included.

So, in his honour, how nerdy were you? Are you still sunlight-averse? What are the sad little things you do that nobody else understands?

As an example, a B3ta regular who shall remain nameless told us, "I spent an entire school summer holiday getting my BBC Model B computer to produce filthy stories from an extensive database of names, nouns, adjectives, stock phrases and deviant sexual practices. It revolutionised the porn magazine dirty letter writing industry for ever.

Revel in your own nerdiness.

Grandmasterfluffles' post on music geekery reminded me of this.
So one night just before Halloween I was downtown with a good friend of mine drinking at a bar with an outside patio (had to sit outside in October because Rob smokes), and three girls sat down in the booth directly behind me. As we sat there I kept hearing an odd whistling sound and finally quietly asked Rob what was making that noise. "They have some kind of whistle," he replied.

I turned around and addressed one of the girls. "Excuse me, what is that thing?"

She held up a little wooden pan pipe. "It's a birthday present." And she passed it to me.

I experimentally blew across the lowest four notes and recognized them as A, C, D, D#. Then I blew A C D A C D# D A C D C A. "Smoke On The Water," I announced, and handed it back to her.

Rob cracked up and the girl looked at me with shining eyes full of awe. "Are you with the band?"

"Nah, I'm just some random wierdo off the street." And we finished our beers and left.

Do you have perfect pitch?

Yes.
I can generally either get the note or get close. so if I really want to I can tune my guitar purely by ear- but it's often just off enough to be annoying, at least to me.

On the other hand, I can usually play rhythm guitar for just about any song I can think of, even if I don't know the song well enough to sing it. This tends to really piss off true musicians, the sort who study and know what they're doing as opposed to hacks like me.

But it's still kinda fun...
