This is a question How nerdy are you?

This week Gary Gygax, co-creator of Dungeons and Dragons, died. A whole generation of pasty dice-obsessed nerds owes him big time. Me included.

So, in his honour, how nerdy were you? Are you still sunlight-averse? What are the sad little things you do that nobody else understands?

As an example, a B3ta regular who shall remain nameless told us, "I spent an entire school summer holiday getting my BBC Model B computer to produce filthy stories from an extensive database of names, nouns, adjectives, stock phrases and deviant sexual practices. It revolutionised the porn magazine dirty letter writing industry for ever.

Revel in your own nerdiness.

GPS
I take my GPS with me every time I go somewhere I haven't been before. I then process its data using PERL scripts, store that in a MySQL database, and use PHP and AJAX to make it available as an overlay of a Google Maps mashup. It looks like this:

(click for bigger. Colors indicate speed: green = slow, red = "car going fast", pink = shinkansen, blue = airplane)

Indy
@FleetLordVT: Until a year and a half ago, I lived near the intersection of Keystone & Kessler. Then we moved to Lafayette so my wife could start a Ph.D. but I still work in Indy, near 71st and 465 on the W side.

@TDub: On Saturday I drove I-94 from the IN border to K'zoo, and had previously driven it between K'zoo and Detroit. I had always assumed from your previous signature that you live in Detroit, so yep, probably been past you on the way to skiing, the auto show, or Toronto.

And, thanks for the compliment, adzam, and for the comment, f.w.b.!
