When are you down in London next?
(, Mon 27 Feb 2012, 20:03, Reply)
No idea, depends on the job situation.
I'm not committing to anything before then.
(, Mon 27 Feb 2012, 20:04, Reply)
Fair enough. How goes the job hunting?

(, Mon 27 Feb 2012, 20:07, Reply)
Well, I'm still doing it...
I've applied for quite a few in the last week, but it's a waiting game innit?
(, Mon 27 Feb 2012, 20:09, Reply)
Unfortunately it is and the waiting is one of the worst aspects of the whole experience.
Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
(, Mon 27 Feb 2012, 20:12, Reply)
It's a pain in the arse, frankly.
As is the whole not hearing anything at all. Got another couple of applications to finish tomorrow, plus I saw something today that is kind of in my old line of work but which would involve a 90 minute drive each way minimum. I shall chew over the job description again tomorrow. The employer isn't the best organisation to work for either, from professional experience.
(, Mon 27 Feb 2012, 20:16, Reply)
What I found was phoning the recruiter up before applying helped.
I did this to get the job I've just started. I think it made more of an impact than a standard application.

I called and said, seen the vacancy, wanted to have a quick chat before I applied so I didn't waste anyone's time, shall I take a couple of minutes to tell you a bit about my background and then you can tell me if you think it's worth my applying.

I think the recruiter remembered me more as a result when they saw my completed application.

Not hearing anything at all is a fucking pain, as you get your hopes up short term and then get more fucked off after a while of not hearing than you would of done if you'd had an acknowledgement.
(, Mon 27 Feb 2012, 20:28, Reply)
I emailed an employer before applying a couple of weeks back.
The job was as a copywriter for a housing association and they specified a degree in marketing / PR - which I don't have. However, I do have a lot of experience in writing corporate guidance and managed a PR contract in a previous job, including writing a lot of press releases and newsletters, so they said they'd be happy to accept an application.

I may take this approach more often.
(, Mon 27 Feb 2012, 20:36, Reply)
Phoning may be better. More personal and more memorable?

(, Mon 27 Feb 2012, 20:40, Reply)
In this case there wasn't a 'phone number on the ad.
But yeah, if there's an opportunity to ring then I will.
(, Mon 27 Feb 2012, 20:48, Reply)
To get my new job I emailed them a link to my catalogue modelling portfolio beforehand.
The interview was in November and so I had a moustache. They mentioned the 'moustache for charity', so I kept a straight face and told them no, this is the way I look.

I think that's what swung it for me.
(, Mon 27 Feb 2012, 20:49, Reply)
There's a prison ship moored on the Ouse which specifically houses terrible pederasts.

Ma' came over today after work and we've blitzed the flat completely, it's so imaculate, EVERYTHING is neat, clean and tidy... even the windows and blinds ! It looks like a show-room.
(, Mon 27 Feb 2012, 21:03, Reply)
Many years? Bugger off Gonz mate, you're making me feel old.

(, Mon 27 Feb 2012, 20:49, Reply)
You ARE old, you even managed to have a kid since we last hooked up, that's a good 14 years worth of ageing right there in that two years.
And I've not even had as much as a sniff of a pair of knickers since then, if anything, my virginaty has grown back.
(, Mon 27 Feb 2012, 21:01, Reply)
I am 38. However I don't need reminding of that by young'uns like you!

(, Mon 27 Feb 2012, 21:23, Reply)
That's the half way mark for what I consider a really good innings.
Oh lordy, just had a thought, another 4-5 years and I'll be at Dad's half way mark.

(, Mon 27 Feb 2012, 21:37, Reply)
They say third time's the charm, so this saturday it's gonna be a smasher.
She had a migrain on saturday and on sunday my guts were playing up (plus I realised I barely have enough cash to get into work 'till I get paid on tuesday night/wed morning... why the hell didn't I wait 'itll next week to get this vita thing? Keep in mind that I only paid £30 'cus I swapped stuff in.... gotta be honest though, it's a wicked toy.
(, Mon 27 Feb 2012, 21:40, Reply)
Well when you get paid
You'll be able to treat her like a princess.
(, Mon 27 Feb 2012, 21:45, Reply)
Not quite, I'll still be in my overdraft when I get paid this month =((((((
But I've got a potential 3 private jobs this month, one of them with a swanky new central london nightclub that I hope will include a massive social-network campaign.

My grandmother lived to be 96. I aim to beat that. Certain lifestyle choices will hinder this.

(, Mon 27 Feb 2012, 21:38, Reply)
Well don't buy a Passatt.

(, Mon 27 Feb 2012, 21:42, Reply)
I reckon advances in medican will counter the fact that I live such an unhealthy lifestyle.
Dad had a little expresion that I'll haunt me, that he told me after his first heart attack, was "I wasn't made for old bones, but I ain't going anywhere yet". Like father, like son. Mind-you, Ma's lot reach their late 80s, so hopefully that'll get me a few extra years.

It's all part of the balance, I don't plan on getting the deposit back when the burry me.
(, Mon 27 Feb 2012, 21:44, Reply)
You know what, I quite like that, I just made that up, but I'm gonna use that one... "I don't plan to get the deposit back when I'm done with my body".

(, Mon 27 Feb 2012, 21:44, Reply)
The love boat, clearly.

(, Mon 27 Feb 2012, 21:29, Reply)
Well that was a long day
I'm half way through a two day seminar, I've spent three hundred quid on drink, thankfully I have the receipts, and I have to do the same again tomorrow.
