best song intro ever?
i love "Am I Evil" by Diamond Head also "The Riverbed" by Gallows.

alt: I have been invited to 10 weddings this year. Are you goimng to any? Do you want to go? Do you wear a morning coat or a lounge suit like pleb?

Altalt: if you see monty on a bike, will you run him over for the "lols"?
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 14:01, 135 replies, latest was 12 years ago)
Is that Diamond Head one not just a rip off of Mars The Bringer of War from Holst's Planets?

(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 14:04, Reply)
I have no idea, but DH have always been far superior songwriters to Holst
he never had any guitar solos
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 14:06, Reply)
Your first assertion is incorrect.
I was going to try and disprove your second, but could only find videos of drippy looking hippies playing dreary versions of Jupiter on acoustic guitars.
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 14:14, Reply)
Eloise by The Damned. Class band.
Also Space is Deep, by the Hawks.
Alt, 1 as far as I know, just trousers and a Hawaiian shirt.
I don't think he does bikes. Apart from the class one that is.
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 14:10, Reply)
see previous thread, he can no longer afford public transport
i wonder if this means the police will evict him from his bustop?
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 14:11, Reply)
Good choices.
Although I think Assault and Battery/Golden Void is a superior HW intro, for 'personal reasons' ie strongest dose of acid I've ever had happy memories.
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 14:17, Reply)
Listening to a live version now.
Dave's on bass, not seen that before.
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 14:24, Reply)
Ooh. Rare.

(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 14:28, Reply)
I saw a Gallows video once.
It was fucking pathetic. The premise of it was some kind of urban unrest/riot scene – and the music was terrible. Faux-angry punk lite seeming performed by mincing woofters.

Also, Brian Tatler from Diamond Head is a tosser. A Midlands, Christian tosser at that. Like a kind of heavy metal Jasper Carrott. Diamond Head? Dick head, more like.

Hope this helps.
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 14:15, Reply)
Don't blame the Midlands
Although that is where it all started: www.homeofmetal.com/

(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 14:30, Reply)
Tom Sawyer by Rush.
Shit song, terrible band - incredible intro.

Or 'Apache' by Michael Viner's Incredible Bongo Band. A masterpiece.

ALSO the intro to 'Films' by Gary Numan is fucking brilliant. So is Steve Miller's 'Take the Money and Run', also 'Fly Like an Eagle'. He's good at the old intros, is our Stevie.
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 14:18, Reply)
I can assure you wholeheartedly
that the intro becomes far less incredible if the same 15 second loop of it is played over and over again for about ten minutes.

DAMNED LIES.

At which I would LOL heartily.

(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 14:24, Reply)
Alt: One. Yes. Depends on the wedding.
If you turn up in a morning suit to a wedding and you are the only one wearing one, then you yourself are the pleb. A 'look at me' pleb, to boot.

'Ace of Spades' by Murtaheid
'Planet Rock' by Afrika Bambaataa
'Magic Carpet Ride' by Steppenwolf
'Sharp Dressed Man' by ZZ Top

I'm just listing 'songs I like' now...

'Love Gun' by Kiss
or 'The Real Thing' by Faith No More.

Alt: Kilt, obviously. Buy a kilt and you'll never have a costume drama again.

AltAlt: I'm not having more damage done to my paintwork, thanks awfully. A brush with a Tesco carwash was more than sufficient, thanks.

'We Care A Lot' is fucking rubbish.
It's like the Red Hot Cunt Peppers only possibly even worse.

Excruciating 'rap-rock' which should be consigned to the bin. Bent, shit and wank.

But what about disasters, fires, floods and killer bees?

Early RHCP is excellent, you flid.
May I point you in the direction of "Mother's Milk" which is outstanding.

*some quip about your mum's milk - what with her being a lezzer. or something.*

RATM however made excellent rap rock
even if their left leaning sensibilities were hard to swallow
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 15:03, Reply)
They thought they were some sort of political anarchists
But their lyrics just sounded like "Waaah I don't want to tidy my room! You can't make me!"
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 15:05, Reply)
'fuck you i won't do what you tell me'

(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 15:06, Reply)
Here's something I wrote about that previously -
"Their music is poorly written, their lyrics could have come from a 12 year old's journal who is rebelling against homework, and I think it's high time they grew up, and stopped protesting.

Plus, singing "Fuck you I won't do what you tell me" on a live radio show when you're nearly 40 is neither big, nor clever, you fucking helmet."

problem with that is those songs were writeen when they were teenagers and are their most popular
they are hardly going to not play them any more
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 15:12, Reply)
The problem is that they played them ever, in the first place,
instead of realising their inherent shitness and getting different jobs. Then deleting their accounts and killing themselves.
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 15:19, Reply)
I find their most famous stuff to be mostly awful
"Killing In The Name", "People Of The Sun" and "Bullet In The Head" are probably the worst, yet they've done some cracking tracks, like "Testify"
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 15:06, Reply)
Their whole first album is fantastic
their second is also good, and that's it really
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 15:08, Reply)
Personally, I disagree, as I think they've done some exellent tracks
However, "Give It Away" is fucking dire.

Terribly whiny 'rapping' and that dismal cunt doing his shitty 'slap bass' over everything, making them sound like the worst of the Beastie Boys mixed with Level fucking 42, on smack. They were shit from day one.
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 15:01, Reply)
You were playing RHCP round your flat last week.
I heard it.

Then you said to me you said, this is the RHCP and I love them, they are the best band I have ever heard. Then you said something unintelligible that sounded like "skin up" and then you said "We Care Alot" was the finest intro you had come across in your many years of listening to music. Then you put on "Running in the family" which you said and I quote "awesome" and as I was leaving I thought I heard you say something about a rat in your kitchen.

I'm struggling with this one
My brain is too sluggish in the afternoon.
The best I can come up with is Action Woman by The Litter.
Most of the best suggestions here are really simple ones, so I guess simplicity is the key. Apart from AA's suggestion of Battery, which is not simple, but is good.
I'm going to make a cup of tea I think.
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 14:48, Reply)
Oh you are so right re The Litter.
That's a great intro to a brilliant song. I have their 'Distortions' LP and it's excellent bar about two tunes. Great version of 'Codine' on there.
(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 15:04, Reply)
It is a rather excellent track, isn't it?

(, Wed 7 Mar 2012, 15:05, Reply)
"Cry Baby" was a bit of a classic, by Ms Joplin.
I saw the original remaining members play a few years ago, obviously with a new singer. They played some fucking Cheshire country club, to see the 60s freak band playing a shithole like this was saddening.
