I'm also thinking that it's annoying you can't give money to "cool" research projects like you can give to charity.Or not that I can find. I'd rather give £5 a month to development of stable fusion power than to stop stray dogs being put down.

Really? I thought they just did the most powerful laser test last month or so and it was sucessful.well it made fusion, it wasn't a net gain.

Would require charitable statusnot worth doing if you're only going to get a tenner a month. And you wouldn't know which project would be considered "cool"

How about the charity holds the money and gift aid, uses interest to process payments quality control running costs etc
then does a big donations once every quarter or something to the research projects required.
Would be pointless unless a lot of people use it though, obviously.

That is basically how* the Wellcome Trust, Cancer research, etc work already.I actually think it's quite a good idea, just probably unmanageable under current charity regs.
*not in practice, obviously, but in concept.

It does seem a bit annoying because I'm getting a little extra a month because of the tax changes and wouldn't mind putting that towards something but most charities leave me cold.
Strange that the model has only been used for health based research before.

It hasn'tGates foundation, Quatar foundation etc all support other research. I think. We're playing around with them over some of our blood stuff but fuck you have to jump through some hoops.

I had a beer with a bit of lime in it, which improved it massivly as it's still young.I think I'll do that until it matures enough to be tasty.
